A Volvo plug-in hybrid caught fire in a garage in Boulder, Kolorado this morning. (no comment on the politics there. IYKYK.)

Volvo... those are safe cars, right?

Yeah they are safe cars when they leave the factory.
After the dealer and whoever else "accessorizes" them, all bets are off.
No telling what really happened there but the people who can't seem to do decent t wiring on 12v automotive systems, they now have 400v systems to play with.

I'd like to make a suggestion before you spray on your coatings. You might already have done this, but looking at the last picture of the underbody, the body support would benefit from having it opened up to let out mud, rocks, etc.. Something like the factory one in front of it. I never understood why Toyota didn't do that from the get go. Junk goes in the opening at top and can't get out the bottom.

EDIT....I just drilled some big holes in mine, seems to work good and you can get a nice coating in there.

Unreal how clean that is under there
It’s about to be a lot cleaner. Off to ice blast.

Engine trans tcase goes in, build trans crossmember, gas pedal / trans tunnel mod, shifter hole, rust repair at second row, weld the crack in the PS door, fill the holes in the back where a PO had located a fire extinguisher and first aid kit. Fix the driver’s door top hinge. Etc.

Then the powertrain comes out and it goes to paint. That’s undercoat, and inside where you can see while seated, plus lizzardskin to replace the crappy noise mat that has been removed, not a full paint job. Going to try PDR on the PS quarter though. Can’t be worse, right?

Mark is on the trepanation. 😀 He had that planned and already pulled all the stock body plugs out. First so it can get clean, then to undercoat.

The undercoating is something they use back east, and the guy doing it used to work for Colorado DOT, seems very familiar with keeping the salt out.

Mark does a lot of c-10 cabs, which have similar issues. He says he drills 1/2” to 3/4” drain holes where the factory should have.

Thanks for the suggestions.
