Haha! I’ve been spending a ton of time on it. It’s been a good distraction. Weather has been crap so nothing to do in the yard.

Absolutely love the color on this rig. Red top and all. Ain’t seen one like it. Not sure what your plans are for the paint. If it were me I would just leave it as is. Get the drive train solid and drive it like you stole it. Character in spades. Awesome work.

Really? I don’t hear that much. Well i’m not sure what it used to look like but i think it’s the previous owners attempt at freeborn red. Sat out in Eastern Washington for 18 years and so it’s just incredibly oxidized. My mother-in-law calls it pink. That’s reason right there to try to fix it. My plan is to paint the headlight bezel and top and then maybe just hit it with a buffing wheel and see what happens. My plans change daily though and I’m definitely open to suggestions! 😁. Body has way too much rust to even think about a real paint job.

I couldn’t understand why it had been painted but the more I dig into it the more I see evidence of an accident In the past. Nothing major but definitely bodywork. It was probably just easier to take it down to Earl Scheib (i’m dating myself) and pay $99.99 for a cheap spray over. Lots of original freeborn bread poking out in places. Ive thought about trying to get to it.

Feeling a little silly. Took the panel out and the Speedo cable was disconnected. PO probably trying to keep the miles down!

You’re welcome. ;)

I would like to nominate suspension bushing replacement as the worst job there is! Especially because I didn’t research it well enough. Got a big bag of shiny new bushings from @65swb45 and figured I’d just slide them all in and then voila! Silky smooth! Took me 8 hours. Reused parts I shouldnt have, destroyed a few bushings and bolts, and I’m really sore this morning! I’m sure they had never been replaced. It was brutal. Will be calling Mark this morning to discuss replacement parts. Ugh.

Woke up at 4am and started obsessing over it. Learning that when I get pissed off, I make bad decisions! Another lesson learned.

I got your message. I am not going to be able to help you. I am packing up my things and will be heading home. I have a fever. :(

Uh oh. Painted the bezel today. Too shiny! Rustoleum appliance paint in biscuit. Planning on using it for the top as well. Any idea how to weather it about 10 years? Might try to rub some dirt and sand all over it.

You can sand it with different grades of sandpaper down to a dull surface look, and on some corners sand through the paint close to the metal

Leave it in the California desert for a season. ;)

Wet sanding with 300-400 grit dulls it out well. If ya want some surface rust look on bare metal exposed areas try a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and salt.

Ha. How you feeling?

Much better today. Fever went away again yesterday. I'm not going to see a doctor, but my best guess is that it is a UTI, which I will treat with cranberry juice and a lot of water and see what happens.

I will call you later. ;)

I too was once there. I say paint the top as well. Usually spray paint fades quickly but there are ways to scuff up, dull paint.
Your fender looks great. I would try and get all the paint like that and paint the roof, OEM wheels and drive the heck out of it.

My old HJ45 right before @Wadesters made it amazing. I had to paint the bezel and roof to make it look a little more cruiser like.

OK cool. Thanks. I’m going to experiment with it. I just don’t want it to look like a fake patina job.

good YouTube videos on it. Check it out. Reaction is quick. So prepared to stop it when you have desired effect.
