@jmlockwood - Mind sharing the main dimensions of your barn and side wall height? Looks like a lean-to on the one side as well? I didn't see a build thread for it on the Workshop sub forum.

@wngrog and @jmlockwood , I'm liberally borrowing ideas from this thread for my mustard 78. I love this post particularly and have nearly identical running boards and fenders. I'm also doing the Project Patina process after reading through all your stuff. Question: for the fenders and running boards in particular, after CLR scrub, what did you put on them to protect the metal? Penetrol or perhaps just polish and wax? I have lots of little nicks and scratches like this that I want to leave, but live in a humid & salty area so very rust prone even in a closed garage.
THANKS

The @thecrazygreek had treated it with Navy oil or something. Seemed to set up like penetrol.

Sure. The barn is 48’ x 50’ enclosed. There is a covered (but not enclosed) lean to of an additional 14’. In short, this started out as a 48’ x 36’ pole barn. I added two 14’ lean-to extensions and enclosed one of those inside the main structure.

Naval Jelly was used. Then did the 3 step polish wax. Seemed to work well....

About 20 years ago I did some construction work for an older couple who kept their mustard 40 in a carport behind their place and rarely drove it. I thought it would be bad form to ask them to sell it to me. It sat there a couple more years because I drove by, then it was gone. Not sure why it is, but a mustard FJ40 just gets under your skin. It is just special among the special. I'm liking this thread.

I really appreciate that. Even though I’ve only owned this one a little over a year, I certainly have a strong attachment to it.

One year ago this beauty came in to get a tune up and left a different truck.

We are about to have a planning session for Mustard 2.0 ..... stay tuned

One year??!! Can you believe it!!?? The bar for version 2.0 has been set pretty high.

My game has been raised as well.

ready.

Love your FJ, JM! Fellow pinhead/arcade enthusiast here too but still on the lookout for my first FJ. I enjoy exposing the kids to the old stuff and looking forward to them facing each other in jump seats one day!

Version 3.0 on the horizon.

I think you need your own subforum to consolidate all your build threads, you know to help the lay reader keep up  .

This won’t be the norm. Normally I spend my time thinking about fish. But COVID caused some travel problems. So I got bored and look what happened.
