Shipping off today to Long Beach, CA. Can't call it it a Honolulu Frame off anymore. Wish I had more time to enjoy it on the island, but duty calls elsewhere. Thanks to all who
have given me comments and recommendations.

Good luck mate look forward to the California frame off restoration.

I'm finally back home in Honolulu, HI and enjoying my 1975 FJ40 after so many years in storage and being built up and painted. I'm not finished with it and I have a lot of things I want to do it it to make it look and ride better. For now it's registered and legal to drive. my first thing to do is to rebuild the quadrajet carburetor I have in it. It seems like it is running rich and I'm always smelling fuel, but I can't find a leak anywhere. So I'm thinking there's either a vacuum leak somewhere in the carb set up.

Flip the bezel and paint it white.

Thanks!
Bezel Flipped already! Got called out in the what have you done to your Land Cruiser last week.
Also, I'm really liking it black on black for now. Will decide later.

I agree, looks like a nice clean 40. I just scrolled thru your thread, nice work. The lack of badging makes a really clean look. It's your 40, you seem to know what you're doing.

Thanks for the support and kind words! To be honest, I should have titled my thread, FJ40 preservation on a budget in WA, CA and HI! Still a work in progress and looking for more ideas to make it that much better along the way.

Good to see you have it back on the Road. After my trip last summer to Maui... I think Honolulu will be my destination next time I'm in your state. Being a first responder to a Shark attack, while in Maui, has forever changed the way I'll look at those waters. Certain things just can't be unseen. I really have a new appreciation for all first responders and the things they deal with while on the job.

Hopefully you'll still have it on the road the next time I head your way... although, I'm not sure how far off that'll be.

Thanks Bikersmurf! I'm sorry you had an unfortunate experience in those waters. I've seen a lot of sharks in these waters and been apart of a lot of rescues and failed ones in the 32 years of service in the Coast Guard, but I haven't ever responded to a shark attack.
I definitely hope to still have it on the road for a long time!

I put these 33's on in 2021 and didn't notice the rubbing until recently. I guess I din't have to make some sharp left turns for a while. I have 1" spacers because the offset 8's I have on needed them to fit with out rubbing the steering arms. Now I'm rubbing the tires against the previous owner steering mod. I guess PO did this mod for the SBC. Steering hasn't been an issue other than having no power steering. I actually can go down the road at 30 to 40 mph and the not veer in any direction unless the pavement it is uneven.
I'm thinking I'm going to have to upgrade to Power steering like saginaw.

See the pictures in post #6 in this thread. When turned in one direction, you adjust the front on one side and the rear on the other side. Turn the other direction and repeat the stop adjusting. Depending on how far out the stops have to be adjusted, the jam nut may need to be transferred to the other side of the housing as the threads won't be long enough. The pictures in post #11 will show this.

looks like you and the cruiser survived just fine from that accident. It will be back on the road in no time. Just another bump in the road of a cruisers life. Keep us posted. It looks like your frame is ok? I think I still have a passenger side emblem-body-piece in my collection, I will check.

My My first accident was in my 40 in 95' at age 17. I rear-ended a pickup and my front bumper was all smashed, brush guard bent back and ruined much of my grill/bezel/headlights (I won't use a brush guard anymore for that reason). I thought it needed towed but a look under the hood revealed the battery cable got disconnected so I fixed it onsite and drove off. I still have bad dreams about not being able to brake and losing control while driving it.

recently my frame-off resto rolled backwards into my fence when my parking brake and rock chalk failed as I was warming it up in neutral in the front yard on a cold morning. I was devastated. Happy to report Hagerty took care of me and she just returned from the body shop all straightened out again.

I originally posted the story of the accident in the “What did you do with your Land Cruiser” thread. Long story short, my nephew was borrowing my FJ40 to go to the beach and he hit some wet road coming out of a curve. He’s okay, but his girlfriend hurt her leg and will be fine.
Thanks for the words of encouragement and good to know about your history with dealing with bumps in the roads. I’m still waiting on a damage assessment. Will keep you all posted.

In the first photo it looks like the front frame horns are bent back. Is the the front suspension mount where it attaches twisted?
