Also finally have the quadrajet installed. Had it for three years and finally able to install.

You're not going to fix that adapter situation? Plus the engine is sitting way over to the driver's side. Usually you'd want it to sit a bit to the passenger's side for steering clearance.

Looking good though...

So where does the clutch go in the first or second bell housing

Did want to change it yet, because I'll be transferring in June to California. Also it still works fine. I didn't realize that it did, the PO had the mount to the steering modified.

The clutch is in the first bell housing. There is a shaft that was made to go from the transmission thru an adapter plate between the bell housings with a bearing then a Chevy clutch fork and throw out bearing.

Got the tub back on today with new Daystar body mounts from Amazon. Had to shave a little off to fit in the rear sill. All lined up after a little finagling. Although I'm not liking how the rear is off or slanted to the left.

Is it me, or does that engine look like it is pointing to the left?

You are right, it is. I'm now wondering if I should be concerned. I didn't notice it when I removed it. I changed out the transmission and engine mount bushings, it all seemed to line up pretty straight with no problems. Drive shafts went on easily and the front drive shaft seem to rotate smoothly by hand.

Looks like it has been done that way on purpose to miss the diff maybe

Cleanse up and painted brake and clutch master cylinder and renewed all brake lines and hoses.

Finished assembling the engine and fuel tank. Working on the wiring now and trying to figure out the alternator and the ignition switch.

Installed the Exhaust system. Started it on the first try and ran like a champ, but found some minor leaks. Now I have a month left here in Hawaii and I'm embarrased to say that I will just put it back together and prime it so I can get it on the boat to my next duty station.

Very nice work mate good luck with it

Finished assembling the front end.
Will need to get proper hood aprons later. Was a pain to line up and doesn't seem to fit right. Probably wrong year aprons from PO.

Great thread! I was in up at Kodiak in the early 80's. Did the Sand PT, Hawaii trip, 7.5 days heading 180. Just started my 75 fj40 build, hope I have the stickability. Semper Paratus and keep the thread up when you get back to the lower 48.

Interesting to see in Message# 40 how the tow hitch is connected. Never seen it done like that before. Great read and great rebuild.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Some progress. Had to get a temporary bumper made here on the island. Probably a bit to much bumper. Should have measured twice. Also working on wiring the Dash, but still trying to make sense of it all. My EZ wiring harness is not easy for me.

I did it! I got the wiring done. I was able to use all Toyota switches with the EZ wiring harness. Took a while for me, but it just took commitment and a lot of trial and error. Now to complete the rest of my reassembly before I depart next Friday. The pressure is on.

Aprons look like the correct year. Older ones are the same size, but have holes for marker lights (I've interchanged them in the past). It's more likely the fenders are aftermarket, the body mounts are packed out, or the fire wall (cowl) is leaning forward. Once you've got the hardtop on you may need to adjust the cowl angle with a jack. These truck weren't super precise to begin with... And have been around the block a lot since then.
