I recently purchased a 1970 FJ40 Land Cruiser. I haven't taken delivery yet. I have been sent many great photos. It appears to be all original. The frame from the front Bib forward appears to have been painted the same color as the body, which is a light blue. Most of the blue on the frame is fairly faded. Does anyone have any info on whether this FJ would have come from the factory with the front frame painted the color of the body, or were all the frames painted black? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't taken delivery of this FJ yet. This is my first Toyota FJ I've owned. Having said that, I have been around a lot of vintage autos in my life time. It's a 2 owner FJ. I will just wait and take a closer inspection when it arrives. Until then I can only guess why someone painted the front part of the frame. It appears it was done along time ago, as most of it has faded away. I kind of thought it was supposed to be a satin black. Just need it confirmed. Thanks Again. I will post some photos when I take delivery.

Here are a few photos of my recently purchased 1970 FJ40. A closer inspection of the front frame shows that the black factory black has lost some pigment, and appears to look bluish. Fairly original FJ with what appears to be 64,000 original miles. It does have a 283 V8 under the hood that was installed a LONG time ago. I tend to be anal about all things small and correct. I am looking for a few small items. I would like to find an original Black plastic T handle seat release pull, a nice set of original hub caps. I am also looking for a few correct screws- The front cowl vent grille screws, and the correct screws for the rear hatch inside inspection panel. I will be posting in the classified section for wanted.

I think the hub caps are still available and affordable. They won't have the patina though.

No offense intended but why would you think that only has 64000 miles? It doesn’t even have the original engine.
I know most of its history. I am puzzled as to why the original owner swapped the motor. He passed away many years ago. There is very little rust. The only rust we can find is right behind both doors, and the rear lower valance across the bottom back. Except for the engine everything else has been left alone. It still has the front brake hose springs, that keep the hose back away from the shocks. I seldom see those on any vehicle of that era. I could be wrong on the mileage, but a good friend of mike who has been around a lot of vintage vehicles was quite surprised to see most of the original stuff still intact. Just my thoughts

Welcome to the world of FJ40 ownership. We don’t really call them FJ’s here. Lots of knowledge available here. Try to support the vendors on this forum, they have everything you will need for your rig.

I think the more you look at the rig the more you will find that is not original

if it has the springs on the brake hoses, is it an early 1970, still a single circuit non boosted brake system?

My 70 has very low miles. Bought it from the original owner fifteen years ago. It has a very early 2F. Owner told me he had an issue with a burned exhaust valve. He had an opportunity to buy a 2F out of a brand new 75 FJ40 having a V8 transplant. I have no doubt he was telling me the truth. Looked for a early F155 to replace it with but no luck close by. My 65 FJ45 has a early 2F as does my 1960 FJ25. 2Fs were a popular upgrade. It I was smart I would have changed to a 2F one of the two times I rebuilt the original F145 in my 68 over the last fifty years.

The FJ25 had the frame painted the same color as the body. While the frame was always black on the FJ40. Early 40s the bumperettes were painted body color.
