Cut off the remains, and these are the parts you’re after:

Finished product. We will try to find a fuel-rated rubber cap, if not we will clamp a bolt into a new piece of EFI hose. Rubber vacuum caps will fail in short order.

Just had a brain fart, the inside of the outlet could be tapped to any thread size and plugged.

Why not use a cap / compression fitting plug? They are readily available.

The compression threads are M13 x 1.5, which is an oddball. Free beer to anyone that can find one!

Back to the tank…

Recap: the whole reason for getting into it was to swap for an 80/100 series Denso pump. Once we got in there, we found that somewhere between Tilda Bogue and Memphis, someone swapped the pump screws with the fastener equivalent of wire nuts.

I tried to retap the threaded ring for fine thread screws, but they didn’t hold. Looking at it, I see the reason for the s*lf t@ppers. The hole in the tank was the same size as the threaded ring, making it nearly impostor line up all the holes and get a fine thread screw lined up properly.

We drilled out the holes a size or two for a better fit:

We cleaned up the old tacks, welded in a new ring, and ground the tacks flush:

Measured for depth (you want the pump off the bottom by 1/4” or so)

Skip a few steps, and the pump is ready:

Back in business, after several rounds of cleaning of course

I’ll fess up. The provided screws did not work.

I’m pretty sure I disclosed this 😬😬😬
That was several years ago, totally forgot. I came up with an elaborate story involving a rival shop across town, but I’ll save it for future use

It’s full turtle speed…

We got the last loose end of the power steering wrapped up. We left off wanting our return pipe at the pump to point in a different direction:

We want it more like this:

We got the new fitting in:

Then promptly cut the pipe off and welded a bolt in the hole to close the hole, then carefully marked and drilled the new hole:

There’s just enough room to squeak by the pump:

Also got this critical piece of jewelry installed:

With the Russian-Ukrainian situation developing, this project got fast tracked in the event it is needed to resolve the conflict. We are rocketing along now with the throttle pushed to double turtles.

Here’s a sneak peek at the fuel lines we’ve been working on. We’ll connect the dots tomorrow.
