Thanks for checking mot. Very much appreciated... bad news or not.

(edit: I wonder if they'd be interested in a "group buy"? Obviously it wouldn't be much more than a couple dozen rims, tops, but that's probably more than they've sold in the last several years and might be enough to rekindle the p/n? Particularly w/ it having been discontinued so recently.)

I'd be interested in 10 and I know another guy that might be interested in four or five.

I just happen to need to go to Toyota Parts today.

I'll see if I can talk to the gal that I'm chummy with and see if she would be willing to talk to Mr. T about making an exception with a bulk order, but don't hold your breath as they were pretty strict in the past about their discont'd PN's in the past!

Mot ;)

Count me in

Depending on cost, I would be up for 5 or 10.

FWIW It took me awhile to find a legitimate thread talking about these. If others knew of this, Toyota could probably sell more. That said, if there is a minimum qty to make it happen, perhaps we could meet it and resell the extras here.

OK guys, not that you've asked for drama, but I've contacted Toyota and told them of our "situation".

They told me not to get my hopes up, but I'm waiting to hear back from them...

But don't sit in front of your computer waiting for the news though. You can watch your favorite program or better yet, spend time with your family! ;)

OK, so just got off the phone with her again and this is what she said...

She found out that one of the reasons that it got discontinued might have been that they no longer had/carry the "mold" that had made those wheels, besides the obvious reason of little/no demand for it.

ANYWAY, that said, she said that there is no guarantee that the shape/design of the wheel would be EXACTLY the same as before, but if you don't mind that they "MIGHT" be able/willing to do it.

The other conditions were that we provide them with a reason why we want it manufactured and also I need to provide them with the vehicle info. that these wheels came std on. I can't just give them the PN, she told me.

So, what would give us the best chance (I've already told her and she had already figured that you guys wanted the original equipment) is that I provide her with the vehicle info which was sold/available here in Japan, as most often they're reluctant/refuse to sell me anything that was for non-JDM/foreign markets.

I asked her if we would be able to order just one so we can see what it actually looks like (In case it's not identical to the original), but she said that they really don't like doing something like this, so it would be best if we could just do it once and not press our luck...

Let me know if you happen to know if this particular wheel was ever available in Japan and the vehicle info. of it.

If not, I would take any/all vehicle info for this wheel and present them with what I feel would give us the best shot or give them all of them.

Again, sorry for the drama.
This is exciting, but the pessimist in me still does not allow me to be jumping up and down.

I gotta run, but let me know if any of you guys can come up with any/all vehicle info. (Frame/chassis numbers might be helpful/required as well).

Let's cross our fingers, guys! :)

Mot...you rock!!!!

I do not need 16" rims, but, I can see the benefits of having a set if these get done, so I am looking forward to more info.

Very cool stuff :cheers::cheers::cheers:

I would say if toyota was going to be making rims...they may as well make the fj25 rims...fj25 were sold world wide and the rim style is not available now for many years...i am sure restorers would love to get new toyota made fj25 rims :)

I like my 16" splits...and...would never be able to afford to get new...but...some people love the old stuff :)

BTW does anybody have the PN for the fj25rims? :hhmm:

I can get you the part number tonight. Don't have the parts book at work. Not sure if 25 wheels would please the masses. Probably a 25 wheel with the 25 offset just wider. The wheels Sean just got with the cut around the fill stem would probably sell well.

Think all factories in the USA which make new rims, can make a perfect 16 repro.
All they need is a old Toyo rim to copy it
If there is enough demand the price will not be astronomical.

I would be intersted in 5 as well. Not overly concerned about the complete appearance, I just want 16" rims, that fit properly and have hub cap clips, and solid contruction. But I want them for a 40.

So Mot, they do not have any left to sell, they are gone forever, or they just won't sell anymore, even if some were still in the warehouse, because the number is discontinued.

Here is the part number on Toyodiy: ToyoDIY.com

Looks like general market FJ-45's had them, if that will help.

Believe it or not, this kind of stuff is fun for me.

And if I can make you guys happy by providing something that is hard to get for you guys in the US, while making a few $ that's all that much better! ;)

Yeah, if you can post the PN, even just for fun, that'll be great.

I had already inquired about the wheel-related PN's and found that only the hub caps are still available.

Anyone with any more vehicle info???

Part numbers for the FJ25 wheels

42601-69101 wheel with no hub cap clips
42601-60010 wheel with hub cap clips
42618-35010 clip for hub cap

I would be interested if the clips are still available. In the diagram they look more like the ones I've seen on old chevy wheels. But all my FJ25 wheels have the standard looking clips.

What would be even cooler is if the rivets for the clips are still available. I have used loose clips, and I have wheels with broken clips. I was going to weld the clips onto the wheels, but using rivets would be cooler.
Hope it helps,
found it on a Porsche 365 side
"How to install hubcap clips without damaging painted rims"
Porsche 356: Hubcap Clip Installation
may be these clips* can also used on LandCruiser rims (think the rivets look similar) ...
...Cheers
Peter

Interesting.

Who's interested in actually buying these rims and are you wanting them for a 40 or a 25?

My preference would be 16" rims for FJ45SWB's. FJ40 is the same thing. Are any of the 25 guys actually interested in buying rims? If so, can we give Mot a rough idea of what we're looking at here?

Depending on cost I'm interested in 5 or 10 wheels to fit FJ45's. I have a 63 and a 64.

Sounds like ccasteel's in for 5 or 10 as well.

This would be 10 or 20 wheels, depending, and for 40's (right cca?).

Any others? 25 series buyers?

I'm looking for them to put on my 40's. Although I've got my eye on a 45 if the :princess: will buy off on it.

BTW I read back over the thread to find how wide they are? Couldn't find it. Does anyone know??? Sean?

fj25 the ones that would need a rim like this...it would be toyota and look like the 16" that had come on their rigs as original...40 owners have choices in rims...but...25 owners do not.

you could argue that these rims are needed because of the historical nature of 25's...and that they dont have choice as 40 owners do already.

just my 2c

This thread was promising because it did give the 25 owner a choice in rims. IMHO

I would be up for 5 if we can keep the price reasonable.
