Hi there,

Are you planning for it to have wireless Android auto in addition to the car play? I assume so, but just checking!

Thanks
This is just a solution to de-couple the HVAC controls from the touch screen. Your choice of radio / head unit going forward is up to you.

----- LOOKING FOR INSTALLER : NORTHERN VIRGINIA ---- I am in Northern Virginia, 2004 Land Cruiser 100 w/ Nav and JBL. I have the parts from the Middle East for Non-Nav conversion with OEM stuff. Who has done this before, would like to do the job again? Please PM me if interested. It seems no one is making the harness anymore.. would be paid of course. Thank you!

I am also keeping an eye on this thread.. & solution.

Thanks to @ZCaptn for volunteering to send the LC JBL Cassette to me and to everyone else that offered. Very much appreciated.

Website is refreshed since I had some time during prototype production, no need to resubmit on waitlist.

Do you need a non-JBL LC tape deck also? Or will it work either way?

Everyone seems ready to rip out the OE monitor and surround/bezel and install the new HVAC control unit. BUT, what head unit and surround/bezel are you guys looking at?
Yeah, there will have to be some sort of bezel to replace the OEM surround that holds the Display, Audio, Climate, and other buttons. Is it expected that this bezel will be available along with the separated HVAC controls to provide a complete transition package?

I've been wondering a lot about this as well. This is all very promising, so I'm excited regardless of what the community comes up with here. But in my ideal world, I'd love for there to be a solution that makes use of more of the available real-estate than a standard double-din unit would. I know there are units from trusted brand names that have screens of 8" and larger, but I suspect we'll be coming up a little short on the bezel piece. That said, 3d printing and scanning has come a long way, so I'm hopeful that we'll be able to produce a solution to use one of these larger display interfaces without making a major cosmetic compromise.

I’ve also been contemplating the best option for a head unit once the AC controls are separated. I’m not an expert, and perhaps someone can provide insights, but I was considering a head unit like the Kenwood 10.1-inch screen. This screen would cover the top portion where the MFD screen is, and since it’s floating, you might not need any trim.

Prototype parts arrived.
Which means we're now one step closer to ending the "should I buy a Tesla screen?" threads.

These are fitment and ergonomics prototypes only, intended to validate overall packaging, button placement, knob sizing, display opening dimensions, mounting points, and general OEM-style appearance before moving further down the hardware path.

The parts are still raw prototype pieces and have not been finished, textured, painted, or assembled with electronics, but seeing the concept move from CAD into physical parts is a major milestone.

On the electronics side, the PCB prototypes are currently in assembly and the firmware architecture is finalized around the production-target MCU platform. The hardware abstraction, input mapping, display interface, power management strategy, and vehicle communication framework have all been defined.

Once the boards arrive, the next phase will be bench validation followed by in-vehicle testing.

Still a ways to go, but progress is happening quickly and we're getting much closer to having something tangible in the vehicle.

Unrelated: Does Doug Thorley still make headers, or is that another problem we're going to have to solve?

Unless you're willing to pay for a big enough order to get their attention, they're done with the 100 series. I think it was Patch trying to get an order in with them, and they originally said they were going to do a batch last year, but ended up canceling it.

Brockett Built has been doing stuff for the V8 4th gen 4Runner & GX470 - his stuff looks great, and he's a small outfit. He may be interested in supporting the 100 series!

I have resigned myself to the fact that OEM manifolds are the only option for us VVTI folks. I just don't anticipate any reasonably priced VVTI headers on the horizon...custom loosely translates to $$$.

But back on topic....the pieces look great, and I am still eagerly awaiting the chance to spend $ on this!

I have already done the non-nav mod but this is very interesting. The china wish head units were not something I was going to ever consider, this might change my mind.

Now for a wrench, will I have to go and find the original amps and cards?

OT: Doug Thorley headers can very rarely be found on eBay. I found my set new there.

That's an Android tablet used as a head unit.

T'Eyes is the most recomended of them currently.
So is it expected that that will be the head unit to use vs a new bezel + a head unit of choice? (I'm not asking you directly, it's more of a general question based on your description of the image above.)
