100 series A/C bypass belt?

Is it possible to bypass the A/C compressor on a 1999 LX470? -Does anyone know what size belt?
The compressor still works, but the bearing on the pulley sounds like gravel. I am hoping to keep the car on the road while I pull the pulley and decide whether I can replace the bearing or need to replace the compressor if the shaft is worn.

AFAIK all 2UZ's were designed with an a/c compressor in place, without it the serpentine belt wouldn't be... serpentining? You would need a dummy idler pulley in its place at a minimum.

Edit: In the photo below, the idler #2 is actually the fan bracket and so it can't be bypassed. Disregard diagram.

You probably could if you wanted to. The new route would be as follows. Not sure it is worth it. If you go to Gates literature, they have a section how to decipher the belt codes (length, ribs, etc). We did the opposite of you, we added a compressor and an idler pulley.

I didn't consider ditching the idler as well, good thinking. The crank pulley would still have adequate belt wrap.

Juice not worth the squeeze, IMO.

Thanks. I will wrap a string and see if I can come up with a measurement. I figured I would ask in case someone had already found a belt that would work.

If you find a belt small enough, by measuring with a string. It wouldn't likely, get a very good hold/bit onto fan pulley. As fan clutch, kicks in. You may get slippage.

Two front 14mm bolts, of the three compressor bolts. Capture nut, is in fan bracket. Just replace fan bracket, if they're damaged.

I'm curious How did they get sheared off? They're very hearty 14mm steel bolts, torque only to 36FT-lbf. The two front in aluminium fan bracket, the one rear in case iron of block.

I don't know how they got sheared off. I threw the belt and noticed the compressor pully was bent in. Obviously the belt wouldn't go back on. My mechanic said most likely one was broke off a while ago and compressor was relying on just 2 bolts and that's how the 2nd got sheared off. I can't complain as it has 397k miles on it, but I love the LC.
The engine runs great. Just this issue right now. My mechanic said I should just sell it. He won't try to get the bolts out (he's a solo mechanic and is getting ready to retire, too old to try it).

The compressor is pulled by belt, tight against fan bracket. If the rear bolt very loose or missing and fronts same. The compressor may get cockeyed.

If you look close. You can see all three bolt, for AC compressor (no compressor). The front two, threaded into fan bracket (upper front, circled in red). The rear one, threaded into block.

I looked into this a ways back as I don't ever use the a/c, can't stand forced air. The tundra 4.7 was offered without a/c. Ran an idler in place of the compressor and the belt sizes were the same.

There are reports on Tundra forums with successful a/c deletes and no ill effects of the reduce belt wrap.

Yeah sorry for the miss communication. The compressor was cockeyed....not bent. I use an independent mechanic. Been working on toyotas and lexus for 30+ yrs. I trust him but anything big, he stopped doing because he's in his late 60s and is by himself in the shop.

There are belts from 1585-1590 from different manufactures that will work.
Conti has a 6pk1590
Dayco and gates have 6pk1585 to 88

Personally, I don't use AC often. I just turn OFF AC, when using cabin heat or fan. If windshield fogs, I set to fresh outside air, bring in our dry Colorado air.

Sometimes, during Timing belt jobs. Mechanics follows FSM. Which FSM, instructs, to remove all three compressor bolts. Anyone that works on 4.7L, knows, rear bolt never needs removing to get off fan bracket (required to remove, in T-belt job). it doesn't even need loosening.

I've lost count of how many of the lower bolts, I found missing. The rear IDK, as I only even look at it, if i'm pulling the AC compressor for R&R.

No he did not. I got my LC used with about 330k on it. He has worked on it multiple times but never did the belts.

Sorry, was referring to Tundra owners that ran a 62.5" belt, which eliminates the need for the oem a/c delete idler pulley/bracket assembly.

I haven't deleted the a/c yet, as a just in case I decide to ever sell the LX. I haven't used a/c in several years.
If I do, it'll be a full delete, and freeing up the extra air flow to the rad by removing the condenser.

Did you end up deleting ac? what belt did you go with? I am in a bit of a pickle after trying to change out the ac compressor pulley bearing and breaking off a chunk of the compressor so I need to bypass it for the meantime.

I did not. I ended up fixing the bracket/backing out the sheared off bolts. Figured we might need AC in the southern heat

Wanting to give a decent conclusion to this thread in case anyone in the future needs/wants to run a non ac belt for whatever reason. Yes it is possible, I found a belt short enough to be ran without the need of the compressor or an idler pulley in its place.

This is the routing for the belt. I was concerned about the lack of contact on the water pump/fan pulley but after driving and getting the truck up to temp no slipping occurred, even after taking the truck to redline from a dead stop hehe.
This is the part I used, sourced locally from an autozone.

definitely don't be like me and break the air compressor trying to change out the bearing which is why I am doing all this in the first place. I would recommend if you're trying to pull the pulley off of the compressor to use a puller and not pry from the back of the pulley like I did, resulting in the entire front of compressor breaking off. I am going to run with no ac until my new compressor gets here as this is my daily.
