hatch

I ordered a set of replacement rear hatch / gate struts but can't figure out how to get the lower "ball" style joint to release. It doesn't have any visible C-clip or pin to release it. I searched and can't find any concrete answer for a 100 series. Anybody have any hints? 04 Lx470.

Fj40 Hardtop rear upper hatch glass -$35 plus shipping (if your willing to take the risk) I thought I was going to use this on my 1970 fj40 but found out it was a larger size, didn't know these came in different sizes. I'm not sure what year this came from but it doesn't fit a 1970. Good shape...

Has anyone looked into putting a strut/shock on the rear lower hatch? A buddy of mine did this on his truck. Definitely a great upgrade if it can be done.
