I have always used AGM batteries, and never altered the standard alternator charger . It works just fine . Only 75 ah , but you really don’t need more if your car is standard .

From my point of view , the best solution for your long term overlanding project would be Toyota 78 ! If you can with a HD-T motor in . And of course a pop up roof for confort camping 😎

just to mention my episode , the front bearing broke and large pieces of alluminio were going around .to a point that a chuck blocked the gear selector . Removed that chuck , I was still able to regularly use the gearbox for 10.000 km . Changed for a H151 😎
