Just implemented...

USED to be unlimited, but there are a couple reasons it's not anymore...

1> Spammers...they register on a forum, post a few times with what seem to be 'realistic' posts, then come back later and edit those posts to spam or virus links...seems to be one of a few new ways the spammers are trying to infiltrate the forums.

2> Disgruntled members...came across one this weekend, member had not been online in months, but had gone thru at some point and edited all their posts to blank. Took some very useful tech threads and made the remaining info useless.

I see your points, but this is still frustrating. I wanted to come back and add an update to the original post of a "how to:" thread I made a few years ago, and I know if I add the update to the end of several pages of discussion, it won't get read in relation to the original post. Is there a way to limit editing to only adding content, but not allowing removal of content?

unfortunately, 'adding' content is exactly what spammers do

This is going to be extremely frustrating.

Woody can you maybe give starred members our edit power back? Still blocks the spammers and probably greatly reduces the disgruntled members problem.

There are many times when I've edited to remove private information that I posted by accident, or to fix an image or link that stopped working in a tech thread.

I agree, the spammers don't buy stars.

As for the disgruntled members, that can be frustrating, but how often does it really happen?
What seems to be a more common issue is tech threads where all of the pics have disappeared because the linked image host is no longer valid

Very frustrating. I've always gone back and edited my rig profile to keep it current and I edit sale threads as things sell. Plus self moderation, if something didn't come out right or was maybe over the line, its nice to go back and fix it.

Sent from my phone bishes!

made some adjustments, discovered a few settings in vB that will control spammer issues but still allow for supporting member edit powers...

If there was a method to fix/control linked images, I'd used it...however, that's one reason all members with 250+ posts have UNLIMITED space for attachments...that was done years ago to help keep images on the 'MUD server where they don't get removed.

I've seen it happen several times :frown:

Thanks for giving us some edit power again!

understood and what ever works best for Woody is fine with me.

although, i do have a habit of rereading my posts and realizing what an ass i have been and want to be able to "tone it down" ...
also, i do see errors in my tech at times and would like to be able to clean it up if need be.

do what you have to do there buddy, will adapt either way.

I will buy my star today just to support this forum, which I use daily.

But verify that the edit option is set to 60 minutes and not 60 milli-seconds, I just made a post and went back in less than 1 minute and could not edit it...

I'm a suporting member of various forums and agree, this forum is used frequently and its time I get off my lazy a$$ and support it.

:D

Can't edit my own posting(s) any more

Hi Woody,

I hate to say this but I just did a posting https://forum.ih8mud.com/diesel-tech-24-volts-systems/473784-freshen-up-dash.html and NO WAY I can edit my posting.
Not even after 1 (one) minute after submitting.

Sorry that I'm a bit pissed off but strange things are going on here. I read things like; "Thanks Woody for fixing" , "Woody fixed it", "Thanks for giving us some edit power again!" and so on but WHAT did you fix? I'm still not able to edit my own posting(s).

I hope to hear why I can not edit my own posting(s).

Thanks in advance,

Rudi
