Tssss, tssss
I'm working on the last details to get my "Tico Truck" in a nice shape. The last details are the knobs on the dash. They are / were a mix of "finds" by the PO's so it's time to clean up.
Since I'm living in Costa Rica and Señor Toyota is not very helpfull and/or willing to get parts for these oldtimers I have to go the DIY route. The "Engine Stop" knob (part# 78501-36030) is listed for $61.94 in the US. Add to that shipping and handling and the risk that customs wants his share you can imagine that the final price of a single knob is un-payable and out of my budget and that is only one knob!
First I had to find the right symbols to make new faces on the existing knobs and second I have to move the knobs and switches of course to their stock location.
In this pic I've made a decall for the Warn hubs
In this pic you see the Hazard switch with a new face but there is still the pull-to-kill-the-engine knob (left from the ashtray) which is now a choke knob from a Nissan.
So I find the right symbol on the Internet, do some Photo shop work, cut it to fit the knob, cover it with self adhesive tranparent plastic and glue it on with 3M super 77 adhesive spray.
Now I have to put it on and move the Wiper switch down to hole above the left of the radio and the Hazard switch to the old Wiper switch location to have all the knobs and switches on their factory location.
Tommorow I'll post the pic's of the final result.
Hasta mañana,
