Just picked this truck up from a buddy in VA. Nice and complete....came with some unobtanium treasures too. Mostly stock truck.....1F, drums, etc. Has an OME suspension on it. Only thing I seem to be missing is a inside rear view mirror so if anyone has an early one for sale, please PM me. I noticed this AM that the panel covering the upper hinges for the rear tailgate is missing too.....probably a tough one to find. Has some rust but that seems to be workable....

Going to do a 3FE/4 speed combo, discs front and rear, 3.73s, AC, PS.....new wiring, new wiring, all new interior.....torn on what to do on the outside. Thinking of leaving the patina until I pull the body and have it redone...not sure I want to go that far. Not a bad candidate to get running and sell either....

I looked quickly the other day and couldn't see it but I didn't put in a lot of effort...I'll find it and get it on the list.

Get that one from Tim?
Sweet LV and nice addiction to the collection ;)
whats the white ride? 70 series? early mini?

Looks like an fzj79 to me. How bout some info on that?

Not from Tim and yes, the white one is a FZJ79 we're building currently. I know it looks like a Cruiser shop....it's not. The owner(me) has a thing for Cruisers....when we slow down(rarely), we build my stuff.

I have a thread in the 70 series section about the 79 but I haven't updated it for a long time(just got back on the 79 series....last year was a busy one with customer work). It's a 2009 FZJ79 body going on a lengthened FZJ80 series frame. It's going to be unbelievable when it's done. Finished the frame mods this week so we're on a roll....I think we'll be in good shape to finish it by summer. I spent about 2 years collecting the parts for it as it was shipped to me as a stripped body....no interior. Some of that stuff is tough to find.....lots and lots of parts from Japan 4x4. At this point, I have just about everything I need....a couple little AC pieces are missing but I think we can fab those. The big stuff(dash, steering column, OEM seats) are all in the truck....those were tough to get. There are so many various models of the truck, both LHD and RHD that the parts become hard to chase down. Without a ton of info either, it's even more complicated. I opted for an oak colored interior too.....even more difficult to find. I'm a glutton for punishment.

Not sure on the year of the LV...the person I bought it from said it was a 64(he knows his Cruisers...ran a well known Cruiser shop for a long time)....I didn't want to argue with him over it. I think it's a 65/66 based on my research. Locking gas door kind of indicates that. Being that it is pretty much original(still has the cool plug for the gas fill)...I would think that the locking gas door was original to the truck. No pop up cowl vent either....kind of rules 64 out(if I remember correctly that the pop up vent was a 64 item). I can't read the underhood VIN plate....I thought those had the production dates on them. There were also 2 VIN plates so I'm not sure which is which. lol.

Is there somewhere else to look for the production date?

It would be easy if I had the title....I could see how it was registered. Title is on the way though...it was "temporarily" lost. There was a previous registration in the glove box but the VIN, make, year was illegible. I guess it will be a surprise....

It's a cool truck....It's neat to see the PU and the LV together. I hope I keep it.

It def. isn't a '64 for reason you mentioned but also the easiest way to tell is the factory heater and fresh air intake on the pass. side that did not start until '65. I am leaning towards yours being a '65. You can also find the VIN on the pass side front frame section and from there we can estimate the old girls age. Sweet LV and you should def. keep it

I'd lean towards a 65 too. No brass tag on the VIN tag....I might run to the the shop tomorrow and grab the frame VIN....see which one of my tags matches the frame tag. I would guess that the tag under the hood is the original one. In the box of spare parts was another VIN tag. I remember seeing at least 50 Cruisers in the boneyard at my buddy's shop back in the day. My guess is that the VIN tag just ended up in the box with the spare parts.

One of the extra hinges that came with the truck has this really cool hand written part number on a Toyota Motor Company sticker. I'll grab a pic. I've never seen anything like it.

I understand the sickness. When the home office of the tlca is our mailbox it often looks like a cruiser shop here as well. Good luck with the build. I did go find your other thread as well. All projects look like fun

Spent the day messing with the truck. VIN is FJ4524933....so I would think it's a 65. I think the dark green/grey paint is primer....I sanded a few sections...it's white underneath. So I think I'll have the new guy at the shop spend his days sanding one section at a time....I'd like to see it all white or at least mostly white with little rust mixed in. Found some bad news....rust in the upper corners of the windshield posts and under the windshield visor. Kind of figured it was rusty up there....not sure how I'll address that. The rest of the truck is solid but there are parts that are rusted....typical LV rust I suppose. The truck was sagging pretty good on the right side(had an OME suspension installed.....the guy I got it from said it was the first LV OME suspension in the country.....his shop was a very early retailer/dealer of ARB products....they built this suspension custom for the truck as it was going to run a full size roof rack....I think they beefed up the rear springs). In any event, inflated the right side tires and she sits nice and level now. Cleaned the seats....they must have been wrapped in plastic and the back(of the rear seat)was painted charcoal grey....can't quite figure out what was going on but the back seat still had the plastic cover. It all came off nicely....nice new upholstery under it. Must have had new foam when they did the covers as they are really nice to sit on. Turned the motor over, spins nicely. It was rebuilt prior to the truck being parked.....the truck was a daily driver for my buddy until the pickup tube in the fuel tank had an issue. Brakes were done, steering done(feels really tight) as well as the motor.

Looks like she was a light blue truck....once I hit the bottom hinge with the power washer, I could see the color. I was very curious to know what color the truck was originally......I couldn't find color on it anywhere. Still not sure why it was left in primer....I'll have to press my buddy to see if he remembers. I like to know a little of the history of my old cars.

Truck has a cool Ramsey PTO....I'll probably run a Saginaw...not sure I can make the PTO work and run the Saginaw. Since the steering feels REALLY tight....maybe running an OEM PS setup would be good. I could keep the PTO then BUT since I'll probably do a 4 speed....I might not keep the PTO. Too many options.

Last few pics....looks better with the white exposed. I love patina so keeping it like this is fine by me. I'm partial to white trucks too.....win/win.
