it does sound bad. i poked around with a stethoscope and couldn't hit on anything real obvious. i couldn't listen to the fan and some other moving stuff..

Possibly the timing chain tensioner or guides have failed. It seems like it is coming from the front area of the engine. Once you remove the belts and try it without them, you will know if it is internal or an accessory for sure.

a/c idler pulley bearing.

Pull the belts and start it up. Hope the noise goes away. Otherwise the repair is going to get pricey in a hurry.

it did end up being the a/c idler pulley bearing.. I don't know how I went so long before pulling the belts. thanks for the reminders guys.
