Since we’re running the trail Friday through Sunday, we’ll meet at the trailhead at 8:00 AM on Friday, 10/15. It’s about a 5 hour drive to the trailhead from South OC, so I’m spending Thursday night at the Avi Resort, which is just a few minutes from the trailhead. I just booked a room for Thursday night ($50), and I’d suggest you book soon for the best rates/availability. If the Avi fills up, you can stay somewhere else in Laughlin, but it’ll be a few minutes farther from the trailhead.

If you’re planning to attend this run, will you please check-in on this thread, so I’ll know whom to expect? Thanks!

JR
I'm in for this trip! I've looking forward to it. I will also be looking to book a room for Thursday night.

A permit is required for groups over 7 rigs. I'm not sure if we would have time to secure a permit. Frankly, I'm surprised (but very pleased!) that we had such interest in the run, since it's a 4-day commitment. I think what we'll need to do is split into 2 groups. For that, I'll need a trail leader for the 2nd group. We can work that out at today's club meeting. As of now, we will still plan on meeting at the same time & place. As usual, I'll post any updates/changes on this forum and in the club newsletter.

Sorry I missed the meeting , After taking a 7 week break and having fun with other activities, I am actively umpiring again for the fall/winter season . It appears the majority of us are going to be at the Avi resort Thursday night. I would like to propose as many of us that are Available , To have dinner as a group Thursday evening in the resort? Sounds like fun !
Anyone that is interested in attending we can discuss more details as the event gets closer , or contact me directly.

Marc

Dinner sounds like fun Mark!

Marc - I'm in for for dinner on Thursday night, too!

Looking forward to seeing you guys! I'll be out of touch for the next few days, as I'm heading up to Mammoth Lakes. However, I'll check in and update when I return.

It looks like Lucy and I are able to make this happen. Is it too late to join in considering the size of the group(s) ? We would be headed for Laughlin from OC at 4pm Thursday, just in time for traffic.

-Chuck

What type of radio communications do you guys use on trail?

My two cents is we're trying to move to ham.

I don't really have anything at the moment. I imagine we will be pretty line of sight for this trip. I could grab something portable if it was not a licensed device.

Is it too late to add another rig to that list?

Hi Chuck - We’d be glad to have you join us! We’ll make the numbers work. See you either in Laughlin or at the trailhead!

A couple of members including myself, are planning to leave the Costa Mesa area Thursday about noon . If anyone is interested in caravanning with us or possibly meeting up with us somewhere along the freeway let me know? And will try to coordinate Location .

I'm up for a caravan. Noon is about when I was planning on leaving as well. Just need to plan a stop for gas in Barstow! :( Thirsty beasts we drive. Used to take our scout troop to Park Moabi (campground just shy of the AZ boarder) for a canoe trip down the Colorado to Lake Havasu. Between that trip and past Mojave Road trips, I just know I can't make it to Avi Casino on one tank and gas south of Barstow along I-40 is sparse and much more expensive than in Barstow.

Okay, Would you like to meet somewhere right off the freeway in Costa Mesa at Harbor boulevard? Or another location along the freeway? I would expect that everyone will top off their tanks Thursday pm right there at the Avi gas station ..
LMK

Any thoughts on the 40 vs the 15 as a route from the North? I hate that long section of no mans land on the 40. Google maps shows it as a draw between the two options.
