Found that the Ft Knox Auto Pistol Safe is just about exactly the dimensions of the center console in my 1995 LC.

I bought one and installed it by drilling 2 holes in the bottom, then using longer bolts (M8x1.25 x 40mm) to secure it through the original console holes. It's bolted in tight to the metal body.

Yes, someone could still conceivably pry it loose from its mounting points, but it would take them some time to get it out, and then they would have to work on getting the safe itself open. Nothing is perfect, but this should stop the run of the mill smash-and-grab type thieves.

EDIT- Added 2 more bolts through the bottom and into the body of the truck. 4 bolts total now. That sucker is in there tight.

Update - The buttons on the simplex lock tend to jiggle and rattle over bumps, so I took the face plate off and put a thin piece of low density foam around the buttons. I also added a thin piece of foam tape where the lock bolt touches the door frame. All quiet now.

PROS:

  • Made in the USA
  • Fits nice (keep in mind the bottom of the console bin is tapered smaller)
  • Simplex lock for quick and reliable opening, even in low light conditions
  • Lid is spring-loaded to stay open on its own
CONS:

  • Nothing is fool-proof
  • Not cheap

Very nice solution. Much easier than changing your console out and much safer too!

Ive been trying to find something exactly like this forever and didnt know which would fit.... my friend had to build one to fit his 4runner but i love this one much more bc its thicker and has a safer access code vs key.

I like it!

Anyone know how similar the 95 console is with the 94?

nice LCR...and a good size reference too!

Great find... gun is nice too...

When you get robbed or hijacked just ask the guy for a moment so you can open your safe and get your gun out. :D

Everybody knows when you drive around your pistol goes in the spot between the console and the e-brake. Toyota also included a pistol staging area between the transfer case shifter and the trans shifter. This box would be great for leaving your stuff in the car, instead of locking it in the glovebox. Nice install !

I know you're just teasing, but to be clear I have no fantasy of drawing from the safe in an emergency. The safe is for securing valuables and does not replace my holster (unless I'm in a place I can't carry). Nor does it mean I can relax my awareness of my surroundings.

For those folks with Carry Permits, this actually is a great way to secure your weapon in the vehicle when you need to enter "prohibited" spaces such as the USPS. Nice find indeed.

I also like the V-Line rifle safe on that same website. Looks like it may fit between the drawers and middle-row seats in my rig...need to do some measurements, though.

bad ass. i need this for the days I run my tube doors and dont want my good stuff robbed!!

Nice, I have been trying to get them to purchase me something similar for my unmarked car. I have no place to secure my rifle, shotgun or my Glock 22 that I keep in the trunk.

I like this idea for the 80 series though. Do you think a Glock 23 would fit into the safe?

The safe is 6" deep, 9.5" long, and 5 " wide. The interior padding takes away about 1" from each dimension. I found dimensions for the G23 at roughly 7x5".

G23 should easily fit, but may not lie totally flat on its side.

The LCR pictured is 4.5 x 6.5".

Haven't you offered up similarly snide remarks before about us gun owners - and you being a "superior" non-gun owner? If so, realize it takes down what any of us think of you (off topic is nice this time of year, I hear) - at least us who both own guns and drive 80's (And I bet a higher than average percentage of 80 owners also have guns, like I bet a lower than average portion of the gun owners are Prius drivers).

@ OP - is the interior big enough for a full frame 1911? - I rarely carry bigger than a 226 or down to a Glock 33, but I have a certain Kimber that I really like & would carry around if I had a gunsafe in the truck.

Easy guys. If this turns into a flame thread I'm gonna be PO'd. I've got my big boy pants on and can take a little good natured ribbing from Dutchy.

Send me that Kimber and I'll see if it fits.

I have a M&P 9mmPro. Kinda big gun. I'll check its fit when I get back to town.
