Began the 1HDT/A442 conversion on my 1988 Portuguese spec "VM73".
Drained fluids and began basic disassembly.

Engine is out of a 1993 UK spec HDJ80 that was imported to Spain. BEB and timing belt were replaced. Doing a little clean up and painting of the rusty bits before engine goes in.

You may notice a coil spring in the underside pic. A couple of the VM73 we've imported have had these. Some sort of helper spring, best I can figure. Front end on this truck sits a little higher than the rear.

Not much work done today, but it begins!!!

Rad, dude! That little rig is going to fly when that 1-HD is in it...

A little more work before calling it an evening.
Radiator out
Condenser out
Upper rad support out
Lower... Thing with the three vent holes in it. Out. Is that a bib? Gotta have a better name for that thing.

Hey Chris, I'm very Jealous! That's gonna be an awesome conversion!

Ha! I think I'll go with Forward Motor Diaper. Has a nice ring to it.
It is yours with my compliments. The Burrito's has surface rust down there (along with a bunch of other stuff) - nothing out of the ordinary, but its all gonna get POR 15ed and then slushed (ATF/diesel bath). You wouldn't recognize it.

This will be a sweet ride with that motor....

Hey Roma. You had a blue 60, picked up a 5 speed trans/transfercase right?
Thanks so much! I think there will be some spots were I'll need a few sets of hands. I'll let you know.
Ill be pulling the engine Saturday morning. You're welcome to come and help, hangout. Joel (Tennessee80) will be coming as well.
