Bulkhead connection for our engine harness pass through on the firewall.
Interior stripped, doing sound deadening while we are doing the swap.
Not bad progress for six working days! 😆
Cheers
The last few days has been building out FTE swap harness.
Unichip with OEM Toyota plugs so it can simply be removed or installed by plugging in these two plugs.
ECU wiring.
Love this wire we found for projects like this. Everything...
Thanks bud! But here’s the thing, this brand new J79 2024 has a 1GR-FE single vvti (intake only), all of the model that is mentioned in that link are the old 70 series with 1fz L6 and so… taking a look at it, is how you said that use a switch to...
Brother! I’m actually making a stand-alone ecu installation in a brand new FJ79, but I have issues for this cluster reading (part number 83800-6BF23) do you have the pinout for the three connectors?
1HZ is out, without a doubt the easiest engine to pull in a new production vehicle anywhere!
Pulled front coils and checked for clearances with new lift, all good.
The 1HZ and trans we have for sale now.
Cheers
Ya same.
Having the 79 frame here makes it interesting. The shock towers on a 79 are lower and also reinforced more. That also means a shorter shock.

Here I added the hzj79 radiator, condenser, ac lines. I ordered all the misc factory pieces that attach to the core support as well as hardware. I used the grj79 power steering line and had to cut off the factory connection to the pump and weld...
I used the engine mounts from the Tundra, since I had a complete parts truck I cut them out and re-used them. Not the best pics of them but they’re there.
Ok, ok 😄 some photos of the frame after the extension, I cut off all the body mounts except the rear cab mounts and also cut out the front crossmember as I planned on using the 79 series front crossmember. Was pretty happy with the cleanliness...
My frame extension work. I had pieces bent up to the match the factory frame rails and made about 13.00” long. They’re basically two c-channels one fitting inside the other. Also had an outer “cap” bent up from 0.250” to wrap over the top and...
Here’s where it started. After little success in securing an 80 series that would act as a donor for my project I Was able to locate a rolling frame with a clear title. I reached out to a guy I got parts from back when I was into pickups/4runners...
Thanks! The seats I got from 425 motorsports in Washington, they’re a Recaro dealer and listed on the Recaro website. Took me forever to decide what seats I was going to use, factory, Recaro, or Scheelman. Was really wanting med gray leather...
Beautiful build. They look so good in stock form.
If you're looking for speaker pods for the doors, we're going to be bringing in a shipment....would be happy to put your name on a set. They work very well in these trucks :)
Decided to post my build here post completion. A big thanks to this forum, tons of info and knowledge here! This build is really not too much different from what you’ve already seen except for my choice of engine/trans. I completed most of the...
For anyone who has never seen these up close, by far the heaviest leaf pack Toyota ever put in a Cruiser!
They weigh over 100lbs each! Stiff as a brick. Rated for over a ton easy, I call them the “camel leaf pack”, thing is you would have to...
