Looks good, but way too time intensive. No way I'm about to spend the time to do 6-10 coats and wetsand in between each one.

It does take time, but it seems clean and easy... no messy overspray, no paint booth needed etc. I read the original post and it looks very thourough. I think I'm going to try it when I have time and a rig to paint.

Makes you want to buy a $200 beater and try it huh??

Could be a cheap way to get a child's first car to look new/ish/er

haha, I have a $200 beater (you following me?)... but it isn't even worth the paint! Great way to paint a trail rig cruiser

I think I'll stick to rattle cans. I haven't painted entire panels yet, but have been doing touchups with good results in the driveway.

Here's a web site that one of the Mopar guys developed about it. It's really good and easy to follow.

I am picking up the sand color paint tonight (hopefully) to find out how closely it matches.

A lot of body shops use this method to prime before the finish sand before the paint booth because it dosen't tie up booth time.

I got a rattle can of the Sand color Rustoleum, It isn't a very close match to the FJ60 tan, but you know what? F** it. Im goint to paint it anyway, and if the door jambs don't match so good - Oh well.

I'll post a pic tonight of what it looks like on my old rusty tailgate.,

shade -

In the Sun -

you can see the color difference from the original tan, but I think it will look pretty dang good.

I am getting closer to trying this for my 40.

1. No tools
2. Cheap with any enamal paint
3. Easy to repair
4. Although work intensive, you can say you did it yourself and with a roller!

Me too. I'm gonna start with the hood on my 78 and go from there. I read the majority of that Moparts thread and think I got the gist of it. It looks like Rustoleum Safety Blue is pretty close match to the smurf blue original color.

Anybody have any idea how Rustoleum stands up to gasoline?

Something I just found that looks like an almost perfect match to the classic "dune beige" color is this stuff in "dunes tan" - http://www.rustoleum.com/product.asp...t_id=219&SBL=2

Looks like just the ticket for a po'boy like me!

Ashooter - see my pics above buddy, it's close but not an exact match. I bought 2 gallons at Home Depot - just waiting for them to come in.

Actually mine's a little different - This is what I bought

It was Krylon rattle can. Truck has some body damage that is getting fixed before the paint so I have time to locate it or order something close in a gallon. But I also just had a friend offer to sparay it for me at his shop I just bring the paint. SO who knows.

Ok think Im going to spray on the body 60% rustoleum 40% mineral spirits just because this is my daily driver and time is becoming an issue. I guess Ill go with the 7771 sand to maybe I can mix it with another color to make it a lil more kaki. Or can you get a rustoleum color match I wonder.

You can't get the Rustoleum matched anywhere. I called their Customer service line, and they said they stopped making the pigments to custom color it.

If you mix it with some grey it might give you the kaki color your looking for, just be sure to measure everything Precisely to make sure each batch is the same.

GIves me an Idea, I may buy a Quart of grey and see if mixing some of that in looks better than the straight sand color as well.
