Globes yes, AHC shocks no. I don't know why that is, but that's how they do it, and it's been that way for a while.
I'm happy to report that I or the globes on 11/19 and got them today. The experience was good.

I got globes from impex in October.

I don’t have the invoice in front of me so going off memory.

4 globes $500ish
Shipping $90
Additional shipping fee (got an email saying I owed more) $5
Customs fee $35. I believe this was paid to dhl once the package hit US and before they would allow delivery.

That’s probably the lowest customs fee I’ve seen reported here on such a high dollar shipment.

Agree on the low tariff fee. I paid near 50% $27 on an order of $60 from Impex.

Edit: $27.15 (49%) import fee for 3 parts (2 relays and 1 sensor) totaling $55.88. Maybe this is due to the low parts value and wouldn’t be so high of a percentage on higher value parts. How much of the $27.15 is fee on parts vs documentation/broker fees.

Hey TM- what part numbers exactly did you order for all the globes? I've never ordered from Impex and wanted the heads up. What was your all in cost? I'm about to tackle this install soon

I want to cancel these items since this order has been "suspended". Should I check or uncheck the box? Consider this the dumb question of the day. Thanks!

Paging @effjay80 @choyota @western flyer @Nay

EDIT: I'm monitoring who all is viewing this page, and if you don't respond, I'm going to consider you just as confused as I am! :bag:

Responses I got:

"will inform you as soon as we get an answer from supplier pls wait"

"We are currently checking with the manufacturer and waiting for a response. We will contact you as soon as we know."

Original expected date I was supposed to receive item: Feb 20th. It's been 3 weeks past. Original order date: Jan 19th, almost 2 months ago.

Fortunately, this is not a rush item. However will I order again from IMPEX? I prefer not to.

If you want to cancel JUST the delayed item, uncheck it and agree to the change.

They're suspending the entire order due to the one item they've highlighted. Once you agree to either remove that item or live with the fact that it may take forever to arrive, they should start processing the order.

If you're wanting to cancel the entire order it may allow you to do that BUT they probably will just credit your account and not refund anything paid to date.

That's been my experience FWIW. But I can't guarantee any of the above ha.

Editing this to note - they have shipped partial orders for me before. Ex. - If you order 20 parts and 19 are in stock, you can ship those 19 if in a hurry, then when the final item does arrive they will ship it separately.

Ideal? No, but sometimes delays happen and you need the other parts.

Thanks for the input, so I ended up just UNchecking the item with the red warning and then proceeding. That moved the status for the remaining items back to "processing" and the one red item to "cancelled".

I usually remove the part that is causing the delay and pay the higher price from a US dealer - especially now once you add in tariffs.

Following up on this: In an attempt to save some $ for parts I was not in a hurry for, I ordered from Impex in Japan for the first time. I usually order from Partsouq or Amaya, but due due to the war in the Middle East, those two are off the table.

TL;DR: got almost everything I ordered, but took exactly 31 days and saved $30 on $260 order.

Timeline:
  • 6 March: Ordered parts
  • 12 March: Received message that certain items were not available. Cancelled those items that day.
  • 23 March: I inquired about status, since it had been ten US working days. Was told "Delivery to our warehouse USUALLY takes 3-8 business days (except holidays and weekend), pls wait, hope we can get it soon, status will be updated automatically. From March 20 to March 22 there were national holidays and days off in Japan".
  • I was checking the order every day at this point and on either 24th or 25th, I saw where one all the items, save one, was marked "ready" or something similar. There was an option to ship seperately, or something like that, so I chose that. Thinking at this point, I'm just going to get what I can and cut my losses.
  • 25 March: Received payment request for shipping for this portion of order and paid.
  • 26 March: Received payment request for shipping for that final part that became available the next day 🙃
  • 30 March: Received payment surcharge request for shipment #1. Paid immediately.
  • 31 March: Received payment surcharge request for shipment #2. Paid immediately.
  • 2 April: Received Import Duty Payment Alert from DHL for Shipment #1. Paid immediately.
  • 3 April: Shipment #1 delivered.
  • 4 April: Received Import Duty Payment Alert from DHL for Shipment #2. Paid immediately.
  • 6 April: Shipment #2 is out for delivery right now.
Costs:
  • $120.84: Cost of Parts
    • $15.12 of this was credited to my account for the initial parts that were not avaliable that I cancelled.
  • $15.71: Balance of shipping cost for shipment #1
  • $26.34: Full shipping cost for shipment #2
  • $12.85: Surcharge for shipment #1
  • $0.76: Surcharge for shipment #2
  • $35.19: Payment to DHL for Shipment #1:
    • REGULATORY CHARGES $1.34
    • IMPORT EXPORT DUTIES $16.35
    • DUTY TAX PROCESSING-NO ACCOUNT $17.50
  • $19.13: Payment to DHL for Shipment #2:
    • REGULATORY CHARGES $1.34
      IMPORT EXPORT DUTIES $0.29
      DUTY TAX PROCESSING-NO ACCOUNT $17.50
  • Grand Total out of pocket: $230.82
Same cost today if ordered from Serra Toyota shipped to me (including local tax and current discounts): $261.71

This is not a true apples-apples comparison since I was impatient, and they would have shipped as one shipment. That would have saved me at least $18.84 for the 2nd DHL fee and some amount of the $26.34 shipping charge for the 2nd shipment. So that savings would have been closer to $60 maybe...?

This notice was published in the middle of my order process:

I hope this is helpful to anyone considering Impex in the future.

Hello Forum,
I've ordered from 3 different overseas companies.

Impex
- Japan
- Average Time to Receive Order: 22 Days
- Import Duties paid for Separately
- 3 Step Ordering Process, with the Separate Process to pay the Shipper for the Import Duties
- Steps are:
- Order (Pay for parts)
- Shipping (Pay for shipping)
- Shipping Adjustments (Pay a little more for shipping)
- Pay Shipper for Import Duties

PartSouq
- UAE
- Average Time to Receive Order: 6 Days
- Import Duties paid for Separately
- 1 Step Ordering Process, with the Separate Process to pay the Shipper for the Import Duties
- Steps are:
- Order (Pay for parts and shipping)
- Pay Shipper for Import Duties

Amayama
- UAE or Japan
- Average Time to Receive Order: 14 Days
- Import Duties paid to Amayama when paying for Order
- 2 Step Ordering Process
- Steps are:
- Order (Amayama then confirms availability)
- Payment (Once Amayama has confirmed availability, you pay for parts, shipping, and import duties)

Some parts are less expensive from Japan, some parts are less expensive from UAE, and some parts are less expensive from a USA Dealership (with a 25% discount from my local dealership).
After experiencing all 3, I typically order from either my local USA Dealership or the Amayama UAE warehouse.
But, per my note above, some items are less expensive from Japan, so I also order from a Japan warehouse from time to time.

Decisions are typically made depending on budget and how quickly the part is needed.
Waiting 1 week for a part may be acceptable, but waiting 2 or 3 weeks may not be.

Note: I've successfully received all of the parts I've ordered from all 3 companies.
All parts have arrived in Toyota / Lexus boxes or bags w/ Toyota Labels and are identical to parts ordered from my local USA Dealership.

Enjoy.
Tom
