That VIN is for a very early FJ40, probably 1961 or 1962. There is not much info on VIN numbers from 1960-1963. Congrats on having one of the early ones. Post a pic, I would love to see it!!

Just what the title says, who has or knows of a real old FJ40. I have two FJ40s that I plan on making one out of. The newer one is a early 63 (62 production date) The other one is a 61. The 61 is in very ruff shape but besides a bad rear cross member the frame looks usable, most of the bady is shot be has all the original running gear. The 63 would be a easier restore but while looking at Treeroot's website I notice that the FJ45 start with FJ45-10001 in !960 thru FJ45-29XXX in 1967. So my problem is the 61 is 1-FJ40-1020X which might make it one of the oldest 40s. I know parts are hard...

Your 40 most likely rolled off the assembly line on Wednesday, December 22, 1971, and was probably titled as a 1972 model.

This October my rig will hit 50 years old, and as far as I can measure, 200k miles... I'm thinking a cruise over Como pass would be fitting. Once again thanks to @DirtDauberGarage for figuring this stuff out!

The early models are a bit harder to pinpoint. Approximately 547 were produced in March 1965, but it's unclear whether production was spread evenly across the month or focused on 40s for a couple of weeks before switching to another model. Assuming a rate of around 25 per day, your probable birth date would be Wednesday, March 31, 1965. That's my best estimate.

Does your VIN tag say March 1965?
