Well it’s a big milestone for the restoration I am finally....FINALLY done with the body work!!! I’ll be a happy man if I never have to look at a sanding block or hammer and dolly again. Dropped off the body with my painter last Friday. He talked me into going with a base/ clear setup over a single stage even though single stage is closer to the OEM application. Guy runs a restoration shop for mostly 60s muscle cars but did have a sweet 70s bronco in the shop. Should have body paint in 2-4weeks and I can’t wait to see how she turns out. Anyways here are a couple pictures...

Started on the front axle rebuild today... never thought I’d be so happy to be tear into a greasy knuckle job but anything is better than body work ATM :D

From a hot rod shop? It will need flames, for sure!

I like where your head is at Paul... I’m envisioning a nice candy apple red and definitely lots of flames. I may not be able to do the speed limit but at least she will look fast :grinpimp:

So what color is this peach gonna be painted?

Looking forward to more updates

Going back stock with the Horizontal Blue she left the factory in. It’s probaly my favorite period correct color so that made the decision an easy one.

Little front and rear axle action today. Got both stripped down, degreased, and blasted then laid down with a few coatsof Eastwood’s chassis black. I sure do like working with clean parts :D

Trunnion bearings had some decent wear and pitting.

More degreasing, blasting, and painting tomorrow. I’m thinking I’m going to have the knuckle hardware plated so it will be a few weeks before I get to reassemble the axles. That’s all for now.

Ball and claw action. Old school cool:smokin:
Sadly the driver side ball and claw saw a little too much action over the years. Going to have to pilfer one off my parts cruiser. The brass bushing that steadys the axle in the housing was loose and worn out likely causing the damage.

Axle and it’s innards are degreased, blasted, and wire wheeled to a shine. Looks like I’ll be sending a load of bits and pieces to get yellow zinc plated.

Cleaning the parts up is always fun because it reveals all the random places Toyota decided stamp their “TEQ” logo... there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.

Great work. I'm really impressed with attention to detail. Did your painter offer any reason why he preferred 'clear over base' as opposed to a 'single-stage' (direct gloss) system? Probably not a bad choice, from what I understand 'clear over base' offers better UV protection. Cheers, Ben

Wowzers. This is going to be a nice truck!

Thanks for the kind words gents. I’m trying my best to make the old girl look like the day she rolled of the assembly line. It’s proven to be a bigger chore than I ever imagined but I am certainly enjoying the process, slow as it may be.

I spent all day just cleaning, blasting, and wire wheeling bolts, nuts, and washers to get them ready for plating.
