The red and white wires coming out of the side of the box on the coil (ignition module?) seem to be cut off,
what are they for? and are they important on a 1980 pickup? the engine seems to be non original, I'm guessing it's a 22r with a 22re cover on it...

(it's seems to have a carb in the second pic)

It's a non running vehicle I'm trying to resurrect, the PPPO apparently had a yard with tons of stuff and would make frank-en trucks.

I know it needs a dist, and i have one, but goal 1 is wiring the starter to tun it over. after that find TDC and new Dist.

Once I'm there is this coil and box obviously bad?

Is there an easy way to find out what model/year the engine is?

Pretty sure that coil/ignitor is from an EFI setup, not a carbed truck. Definitely not original. Definitely that truck is a cobbled together mess.

Are people really getting that desperate to find these trucks?

I would replace that coil and depending on the distributor you may not need a coil mounted igniter.

The guy who worked on them had a yard wtih like $200 vehicles and as a hobby, built franken trucks and sold them on.

OTOH, i paid $500 each for all 3 trucks, so I got what a paid for (if not what i thought i was paying for)

Which coild dont' need and igniter? The Engine has a 22re valve cover, but it's also clearly got a carb...

Do they make efi dists for toyota pickups?

Thanks,

Eric-

The 22re uses a dedicated dizzy with a coil/ignitor. So does the 3FE in the FJ62/FJ80's.

$500 for 3 toyota trucks? I'd say you got what you paid for. But it might not be worth the headache of trying to figure out what the PO jerry rigged just to get it to "work".

You can get aftermarket distributors with built in electronics or if you want to go stockish you need a distributor with coil mounted electronics. In either case a new coil would not be a bad idea.

Those are the pick up coil wires. You can typically use whatever ignitor on a 22r as long as you get the right wires connected. There were a bunch of different styles over the years but they all function basically the same. We have used EFI coils/ignitors on carb harnesses several times.

That setup looks like what I have seen come stock on a 1980 4wd or later model carbed 2wd trucks. If it still works it should work. I like to solder and heat shrink those wires for the pickup coil when I have to repair them.

$500 each, i'm trying to build 1good one to run in a gambler 500 , and be a ranch truck in between. My brother has 90% of a good 84 he can ressurect with these 3 also.
