I'm about to start on my front bumper and I had a few pre build questions for some of the more versed 80 guys/gals. I'm going to be building my winch plate/bumper center section out of 1/4" plate and finishing the rest with 1/8" plate. I'm wanting to keep the bolt on design but I was wondering if the factory mounting points hold up?

I have no issues boxing/plating the frame if needed. Or I can weld the winch to the frame farther back and only bolt the front bumper portion to the frame....

Just trying to figure out the best way to attack this thing..

I'm a new 80S owner and I've never had the front bumper off it.

TIA.

Box Rocket is on the money. Any winch you have will stall long before the mounting points on an 80 give you any trouble.

As per above, yeah bolt it on.

The last one I built, I used an engine hoist (which I happen to have) to hoist the winch and plate it was bolted to to the position I wanted, then essentially built and welded the frame attachment points up to it, this way I got it as close to the body (I notched the lower valence actually) to try and keep it as unobtrusive as I could.

With all the salt we get on winter roads here, if I had time, money and motivation to build another, I would use more aluminum checkerplate, and steel mostly as structure underneath
