Sure I am.

I just ordered the front ARB. Now, who has the hookup on the 4.88 gears?

I need to get that on order ASAP....

John, nice article in Toyota 4WD owner......I read every word. Nice work.

Thanks sir!

Nolan,

Let me know when you want to go and I probably will do it again. I'll wait to get my dents fixed after this trip:D

Thanks for all the compliments, I didn't do it alone, there were a lot of people there that helped, spotters, helping stack rocks but mainly it was the atmosphere of no pressure, everyone had a lot of patience and no one was being pushed to be in a hurry. The relax atmoshepere makes a HUGE difference.

I've never driven the Rubicon before (all the way through), I was a passenger in Paul Otto's truck once in an 80 led by Tony Twiddy.

I'd do it again and again, but maybe not in my truck. Maybe I can borrow the U80 on the next trip. :flipoff2:

Bull and I are going to run the whole thing at Rubithon in our 100's.

I have will upgrade to full coverage :D

Anybody else run the Rubicon in their 100 since 9/22/2006? I can't believe the subject hasn't been covered since then... If so, would you do it again? Any mods you realized you wanted or needed after you got there?

Not sure there's a lot of desire from 100 owners. It's not about capability it's about the 100's size. The Rubicon has places 24/7 where fitting the 100 is extremely difficult. I've done things on trails in AZ that are more difficult than things I've seen on the Rubi and Rubi experts have confirmed it. So have others. That's the difference though...2-4 horrible obstacles vs 1,235 on the Rubi. Way more overal risk...though way more overall excitement when done.

Zero desire from this 100 series owner. If I ever get a 40 or a 60/62 that's intended to be beaten on I'll do it.

Me too. That's why I never went. I wheel to have fun...not to go 1/4-mile in 8-hours. :D

Naw...I'd not take my 80 either. Gimme a small 40 or Jeep. Watch the beauty and without troubles.

I did it in my 80. Some tight places and it can be done in a 100 with a good spotter. The 100 isnt that much bigger than the 80. There was also a group of FJ Cruisers that went when we took our caravan of 80's through there.

Came out unscathed and had a great time. If I got with the wagon group lead by the Norcal guys, I wouldn't hesitate to take my 100 out there as they will provide great spotting

So John if you never went or have been there, how can you give advice about something and be credible?

Oh good god.

Funny, same thing I thought when I read your post

BTW - not sure where you got 1/4 mile in 8 hours. We actually moved pretty quick

+1 Anyone else? I'm more interested in hearing from those that have done it as opposed to reasons why one hasn't.

Some folks are just hypocrits.

*They (in hundreds) said years back that 100's suck on the trail and they never even been in one let alone a built on on the trail.

*Some say (like here) that unless you have been on a particular trail your comments and writings are not credible. What a load a crap! If you quote the sames words experts have (like I did here) then your writing is credible. If you don't want to believe it then don't.

*It's not rocket science to know via reading, talking to experts and doing research that Zuk's, Wranglers (stock) and small vehicles like FJ40's will eat alive a wagon like the 80 on the Rubicon. I didn't make it up. For you to quesiton me shows your motives.

Good lord! So one must own and track a ZR1 before they can tell folks on a forum that it'll beat my Rx8 around Laguna Seca? OMG! HILARIOUS! What a pile of crap some of you come up with! LMAO!

Is it not obvious? NOBODY'S DOING IT because 100 owners are not interested or they'd a been there in droves. So you'll have to hear "reasons why they are not" instead (nice dig though). :D

They are heading to Ouray, Pismo and all kinds of other hot spots. Little FUN to be had on the Rubicon in a 100. I listened to Scott Brady and decided to not go.

Oh, is he now a dummy and not creditble loser too? He raved about the near stock Wrangler that glided through on his website. Send hate mail? Kidding!

John - cheers, yes, great, you win, or whatever else it takes to get you to simmer down just pretend I said it.

Now, has anyone else completed the Rubicon? I haven't...neither in my 80 or 100. If you have completed it in your 100, what build? What would you do differently?

John - someone is asking if they could take a 100 on a trail. Unless you have been on it, how can you say. You have no first hand knowledge. We went with 11 80s and there was a group of FJ's right behind us. None of us were damaged. That dfirst hand was there experiance disagrees with what you heard and read. You say I am full of crap because my first hand experiance is different than what you read. BTW- I am a rocket scientist, at least I use to be before I moved into management :D

I have never said the 100 sucked. My daughter followed me everywhere I went with her IFS 4runner

Two of my good friends have wheeled 100's for years in our club

When people provide a different opinion then you you say they are full of crap. Thats foolish John.

If you were charting a course through a reef, would you ask the guy that has done it or someone who has read about it?

I'd give the Rubicon a run for it's money. I'm not sure I would make it far with the minimal armor and A-TRAC but I would be happy to try.

I am accepting offers to pay for my trip. In return you get to watch my 100 get destroyed.

I would definitly have at least a rear locker and a front would be a plus. The Rubicon requires power braking in many spots to work you way through a few obstacles

When we went we have 5 video cameras and 22 people with regular cameras. I edited all the footage into a movie for the club as a memory

I have taken the few tight spots that would be a concern for a larger wagon and loaded it on youtube. However, good spotting and tire placement would get you through these. There are other obstacles, but these are the ones where the wagons size make it harder

There was a tight spot coming out up cadillac hill, but having a jeep guy spot us is what created some difficulty there/ Definitly need someone who knows wagons, thats why I suggested the Norcal wagon group
