Who has taken their 100 on the Rubicon?

When I worked at the Toyota store we had a big picture on the wall of fjs on the rubicon and there was a 100 in the background.

I actually find it amazing that all these years later, Amando is still one of the very few 100s to make it all the way through. I know of another attempt that resulted in a ruined 100 (towed out and scrapped). The factory guys did get through with a lot of body damage. But still, hundreds should have gone through by now and none have. I just remember that getting Amando's through was a big effort. Hard to believe that's nearly 10 years ago.

I have seen that pic, but I can't remember where. I could have swore I had it somewhere... I would love to see it again!

I don't think the Toyota guys had "a lot of body damage". IIRC, they just ripped off the tupperware bumpers and dented rocker panels. Both of which would have been prevented by 75% of the rigs on this forum since we have aftermarket bumpers and sliders....

Did he have any major breakage? I may have missed reading it on this thread, but, I don't recall any.

I've sent an email to Rick Cortez if he'd be OK for us to bring a Hundy to the wagon run, if he says so, were going to continue the build.

Maybe this is something that we might want to do WITHOUT an event (just as others have commented on), but, having said that, either or, it will be a challenge.
Obviously, we don't want to spoil the fun on the trail and for others that are going to be on the trail as well.

We have ordered front and rear ARB lockers over the weekend thru Rocky Road Outfitters and had a great deal, both for $1390 w/o the air compressor though. I hope that price was not an error on their site.
All we need now is Luke's rear bumper and delete the AHC for a traditional lift. Thinking of the 2.5" heavy from Slee. 35's will be the last on the list. We can always get those last minute. Yesterday, we went to a junkyard in Oakland and found two Hundy's w/out the motor, we scored the front end for spares....

I was on the same trip with Cruiserdrew and Amando...
there was no damage that I recall...

that said...expect that you WILL have damage. If you end up with none, you'll be happy...if you end up with some...you'll expect it.

I strongly suggest against trying to run the trail with 33s...it will not be enjoyable.

Revival- I'm taking my hundo on the 'con June 17-19. Planning to get to Cadillac and then turn back. I'll be going with experienced guys who have run it before. I almost rolled my truck on signal peak yesterday and then wedged it between 2 trees at the top of a hill climb so she's getting her experience points up!! She's locked geared armored winched has fridge compressor yadda yadda see how it goes. Wish I had transfer gears and a straight axle but that's down the road. I believe the attraction to going in a 100 is that it's more of a challenge to the driver. My Tacoma would practically drive itself lol

I'm not that worried about body damage and it's pretty well armored. I'm gonna make some little skids for the rear lower control arm mounts because they are already mangled as it is. I'm not doing any special skid plates... My spotter will be good and I can usually tell by the look of a rock if it's gonna rip my guts out... I've been through plenty driveshafts already.

How does a 100 series compare to an LR3? This guy made it through with relatively little body damage:

Unfortunately I was not able to go!! My front TJM air locker broke 4days before leaving. I was doing a very minor trail that I do all the time and it would not unlock. I tried everything I could think of and so now I am running 2wd with no drive flanges, front driveshaft removed and center diff locked. So far TJM has failed to reply to me in two separate emails. I'm giving it until Wednesday before I really start making a stink. Expect a thread on this issue soon, hopefully about their great customer service that will cover my 8mnth old product that rarely got used. The rear I use a lot and is functioning perfectly.

Better there than on the 'con.....:)

I have used The BBB a couple times with very good success if it comes to that.

Bringing this one up again...

After more than a year of talking about taking the hundy to the Con, we finally took her up there two weeks ago... we didn't make it rubithon due to schedule conflict so we went on our own.

35s and trimmed the wheel wells
Slee skid plates
4x4 labs rear
Arb lockers
Arb front bumper
Slee lift/heavies
Metal tech sliders
AHC delete

It was quite some work but very capable. Luckily we didn't have to use our trail spares, CVs, rack and pinions, tre's, DS...
but, she had two busted valve stem on the same side, DS,and luckily, we had scouted one from the jeepers Jamboree guys.

No major body damage, just a two inch scratch on DS side door, a result of an impatient driver. A lot of rock stacking was the key. The slee skid plate really did its job.

Came looking to see if any 200’s had done the Rubicon, the started looking to see if 100’s had and found this thread. Armando and the FJ Cruiser team with a couple 100’s at the start then 11 more pages/several years of heated banter about theoretical runs. Pilotuku runs it and post photos and the thread dies lol.

People mostly want to know if a 100 *could* run the Rubicon but dont really want to risk it. But around the water cooler at work they get to brag about how their rig "totally could run the rubicon mostly stock" etc

Give it a few more years

It’s not about doing the Rubicon once that counts. It’s doing it 2, 3+ times... because then that means it was actually fun taking the big girl through there.

And after once, your buddies won’t go with you anymore because their backs still hurt from stacking all those rocks. 😜

Fordyce is more fun

Perhaps next year... but not in the 100. :bounce::bounce2:
