That is awesome those are some cool pics. I wish we could get out there now we could have a great time. Sure you dont want to break those trails back in Capt.?

Pictures 6 and 7 definately resemble my property. These look like they are on Bearcat or Blue Sky. David. look carefully at right side backgrounnd of picture 6 and you will see what appears to be the old Winchester house.

I don't believe those rocks are mine in picture 16. The hill-climb drags in pics 8 and 9 very well may be my property. I have found the remnants of two rutted-out lanes up a hill about that size. The soil color even matches. To top it off, I found an old Wolf's Head motor oil sign that has "LANE 2" painted on the back at this location.

Post anymore you have, guys. These are awesome. "That 70's SHOW":D

Sweet! Capt! I have a few more of the uphill drags. Tell me mor eabout how you got this property etc. I would love to walk some of it if nothing else. Dont get to see alot of stuff that my parents did back in the day. (Besides the usual house etc stuff)

I will do my best to ask mom about it soon as well. we will see how much she remembers. Anything at all you can tell me about this area what the place really was. Why it went under, etc.

Again awesome!!!!!

Matt,

David and Alan could probably tell you more about this place than I could. In fact, David and Lynn found this property for me after I had been searching for about two years. I bought it to eventually move up to and build a house at the top. Right now I have a trailer at the bottom of the hill.

The off-road park was much larger than my 23 acres. My property, however, is the steepest stuff and includes two peaks. Ther are people living on the surrounding properties full-time.

This park was owner/or associated with Hinkle Jeep, in Pickens. I was told they were the largest Jeep dealer back then. Don't know what caused it to shut down.

I am going to walk the area with some of these photos next time I'm up there to see what if anything matches up. Specifically the power poles/transformers in one shot. I'll Let you know and you can join me. Probably won't be until January.

Ask your mom about it and have Troll post up any mor pics you have. I may print these out and put 'em up on my wall up there.

Great pics. My wife even thinks it looks like our place.

Those pics are bad ass. We need a wheelin place like that again. Jim what could be better than havin a 4wheel park exclusively for landcruisers for your front yard. You could save the back yard for your wife to have for her garden and such. We could call it Jim's Place!

My dad used to do all of those trail runs with Hinkle Jeep. He was good friends with Mr. Hinkle. He still has the Hinkle Jeep tags on his 77 Cherokee Chief. Next time I go home I will try to scan some of his old pics.

Awesome!!!!!!!! Even more awesome knowing the location too.

Please do. I have been trying to get some old pics of my place since I bought it. Love to see some more.

Actually, my property backs up to the same Duke Power right-of-way as the Mountain Estates area, only I am about 1.5 miles west of highway 178, and mountain estates is about 1 mile east of highway 178.

Jim you may also check around with IronMan 4WD in Pickens. The owner was huge into Hinkle Jeep runs and stuff. He may have some info/pictures. He is a super nice guy.

I'll stop in there next time I come up. I also talked with some of the guys at Clemson 4WD and they told me things about the park, but no one had any pictures.

Two guys who owned the property back in the 70's were James Cooley and J. Edward Allgood. One of these guys was/is a commisioner or something down in Anderson. I believe these were the guys that sold it off for development.

The first and last picture on that page are of Tellico, not my place.

amazing how a place can change in 30 yrs. I see what you mean, about the trail, didnt even seem as if a trail was there? I would still love to go next time. I will bring more pictures as well :)

I love the pic of me holding the Capt'n's Cruiser from rolling back down. ;)
Jim, I think that is the Winchester place in the photo you mentioned.
Ya'll should note that while the pics from Jim's hill climb are neat, the
funny ones would be the "novices" trying just to get up Jim's driveway.
LOL....Lynn smoked the 60's clutch trying it in 2wd. We all about die
laughing at most people's first attempt. ;)
See youse guys soon.

Jim. Who's black cruiser is that in your pics?

Troll,

That is my good friend Jason Stewart's 40, from Tampa. After rolling it at Helicopter Pad back in '98 or '99, he totally rebuilt it, including cutting the frame in half and grafting on the rear half of an 80 series frame, complete with coils spring suspension and FF rear axle.

It's got a SBC engine, SM420 with some sort of doubler on his TC. It is really low-geared. That picture of him is the first trail he did with that truck since he re-built it. I may have other detailed pics of it on my other computer. If I do, I'll post some up for you. BTW, he too has a fiberglass body on his.

David will tell you, we have made a sport of running out to my rear patio deck when we here a visitor coming up my drive. We all take bets on whether they will make it or not.

Heck, at one party, my guests had to park at the bottom of the driveway and David would ferry them up the driveway to my place in his 40! :D
