Where Have you Driven Your 40-Series This Week?

From a couple of weeks ago -

During my daughter's recent visit, it was raining and foggy, and she was excited to get her second driving lesson in a standard. So, with my daughter driving, we headed up a local forest service road to a lookout point above the fog covered valley below.

The fun part came when she jockied the FJ40 around to get a good position for the pic. Between the clutch work, the manual steering and the nearby drop-off, it was pretty thrilling. She did great!

She's owned a couple of modern Jeeps, but she loves the old school experience of the FJ40, despite, or maybe because of, its obvious "character".

Went camping at a friend’s property a couple hours from here with my boy.

Did you find out what caused this?
Yes. I loosened the distributor clamp and rotated the distributor until it smoothed out. Timing had been slightly off, and I had put off adjusting it. I still don’t know how it suddenly got so far out. It was clamped down tight.

Cool. Looks like a fun project. Nice that you're breathing life back into a classic.

In the 70's I had several fun two seater European rag tops as basic transportation, including a very rusty TR4, that I drove back and forth to college. A really fun little car, but because of the low ride and the holes in the floorpan, when going through puddles my feet got wet. Good memories!

Great start Mike. Keep us posted.
Thanks. I put this project away for a bit as the Cruiser got a little too big for my garage door opening. I am going to work on finishing the rest of the interior this spring so that I can lower the temps and noise for the summer/fall trips.

Me too! My first Spitfire had a plywood patch in the driver side floor, but it was like driving a go kart. Back and forth to college, Temple University in Philly. I traded that off for a 1970 FIAT 124 Sport Spyder. That car was more refined, a bit heavier, and waaaay ahead of its time. 5 speed, twin cam, 4 wheel power disc brakes and you could lower the soft top with one hand from the drivers seat.
