What's the biggest thing your 80 series has towed?

Had a landscaper in my neighborhood whose truck broke down. He had a Chevy 2500 and a trailer full of gear. Hooked him up with my 20 foot tow rope and towed him back to his house about 5 miles away. He commented on how the cruiser was a beast.

I had a popup that was around 3000 loaded and then two kids, two hundred pound dogs, bikes ect. in the cruiser. As long as the trailer brakes worked it was fine but the time they went out coming down Chinook pass was really spooky. The LC is ok with loads on the flat if you are careful but the hills can be scary.

In Europe and Oz the FZJ80 is rated to tow 7700 lbs (3500 kg)!

My heaviest load was Ford 9N tractor and 3 attachments on 18 ft flatbed. UT to CO via I80. I was amazed at how well the chassis handled the weight, but it was easy to control the tongue weight by moving tractor. Handled fine, speed going up mountains was a different matter...

I didn't tow this very far, nor very fast but it did alright.

Hey, I did that last week! A strap with a little stretch and locker helped.

As a routine landscape tool, I personally just use the winch & drop the trans in neutral & stand on the brake - only had to strap the 80 to another tree once.

Lots less strain on your driveline, at least in my mind.

On topic, I tow a 22' Wooldridge sled & a tandem trailer (~4500-5000#), it's decent as long as the onramps to the highway are traffic free / plan my moves.

Braking is the bigger "if" - I leave a football field if I can between me & anything ahead of me - trailer has mech brakes but still, 80's are't known for awesome brakes just hauling themselves around.
