This will replace the untrustworthy, 8000 pound advertised/ 4000 pound actual pull, Harbor Freight winch on heathers Jeep that doesn't want to work unless it's above 30 degrees.
Just installed the new diff cover plates I got for the jeep on Sunday and filled the diffs up after work Monday. Got home today and a little shipment came in and was sitting on the porch. I still have some work to do on the daily driver and fj but it may have to wait.
All skids. Sliders on there now work but not what I want in the end. Skid it out all the way and winch bumper next. I have to save a bunch for lift, tires and regear as that isn't gonna be cheap. I might possibly put in a spacer lift in the front if the winch and bumper make it sag.
well...got all the wiring hooked up and she fired right up. So far all looks good...no sparks, no smoke, no issues. Still don't have brake lights/turn signal/hazards, but have a feeling that is a flasher issue. They changed things in 71, so I figure that is my issue. Otherwise the lights are working. Now to get the doors and hardtop finished.
Changed the gear oil in the diff's and transfer case. Front was definitely grease contaminated, so I see a birf job in my future. Had to take the dremel to the guard ring on the rear diff to get a socket on it. Bolts on the transfer plate skid needed some work also. Replaced those bolts and swapped the drain and fill plugs with hex-drive plugs.
Anybody need some plugs?
Did a preliminary check of my rear locker also - motor isn't turning, so this seems to be a different problem then the last two times. Will dig into that tomorrow.
More corrosion in the locker actuator - I'll be damned if I know how it's getting in. Three of the magnets in the motor assembly were loose also, so I epoxied those back one. Added a new breather tube also - maybe that will help.

BE CAREFUL!
The low profile plugs like that on the bottom tend to work them selves out after so many axle drags across the rocks.
I had to weld my front in, and about to do the same to the rear.
OK, good to know. I'll keep an eye on them. I'll put the old ones back before I'd weld them - the whole point was to make them easier to remove with regard to stripping the short head or not being able to get a socket between the head and the guard ring.
I know and understand. I can't put the stocks back in because the threads on the housing where wasted. So I welded them up.
It's just a Public Service Announcement.
Me experience isn't the best w/ them and just wanted to let you know to keep an eye on them.
