@ Moose: was looking for the lift and finally found it... In Melbourne FL... It apparently didn't make it in the trailer or truck. Still have a welder to get too.

Hope one turns up closer, they are a pain to store.

Thats funny Bret. Went to borrow one from a friend of my wife, and his was not where he remembered it either! I picked one up at HF. Nothing fancy, but should get me through what I need to do with it.

Got some more work done on the 80 today. Or disassembly rather. Upper intake is off as well as the fuel rail and injectors. Should have the head off in a couple days. Talked to some of the guys on Rising Sun. Seems like Rocky Mountain High Performance in Arvada has done quite a few cruiser heads and knows his way around them really well. So I think I'll be taking it up there to have it redone. Also, the injectors will be sent in for cleaning/rebuild and flow testing. As you can see, they don't look real pretty and could really use some love!

Nice work. I'm sure it's going to be great having a fresh 3FE! Are you sending the injectors to RC? I read somewhere that a real cleaning on these injectors is worthwhile after 23+ years, but I also read that they can't be rebuilt. I have no idea if this is true or not.

I'm going to send the injectors to Witch Hunter Performance since I've seen a lot of good recommendations for them. $22 to clean, replace parts, and flow test each injector. I'm sure there will be a dramatic improvement.

Tons of stuff to take off this motor. Trying to figure out how I could put it back in. Right now the plan is to put the short block with accessories in, then add the head and manifolds on afterwards. I'll figure that out as it goes I suppose. Hopefully have the head off and to the shop by next weekend. Want to be complete by mid March of possible!

Honestly the regular MOPAR black RTV sealant is badass. I use it quite a bit and not just because I could get it for free

I use the right stuff.

Make sure you clean both surfaces with a brake cleaner to remove all oil residue. Any oil will prevent the silicone from sticking. I don't buy all the specialty types they have at the parts store because I'm cheap :) I just use black for everything. Don't ever have any leaks.

Bummer man. I'm surprised heat didn't loosen it. That's my secret weapon.

Yep, heat usually breaks the bond good. I put it in the drill press, drilled it as much as I could without mangling the threads, heated the housing once more. I gripped it with channel locks and hammered on them with a BFH till it came loose. Looks like I got it out without damaging the housing.

I read on the jeep forums where a guy couldn't get his diff cover off because of the awesome bond the black rtv made. He heated it and tried everything he could think of and nothing worked. He welded on a hook and got his winch on it and when it came loose it went flying across the garage. Glad it finally came out.

Got some time to play in the garage today.

The PO (;)) broke off a few bolts on the front clip, so I drilled them out, retapped them, then installed some new hardware.

Then scrapped off a bunch of the wheel well coating so I could get to a rust spot. Cut out the bad and made a patch for the hole. Hope to weld it in tomorrow.

Should be able to get the head to Rod's Machine Shop today. It's the shop that Red Line uses for their heads. Have a decent price for the service as well. Now to get a gasket kit so I can start building up the other block with accessories so I can get the head on when I get it back.

Head is now at the machine shop and gaskets have been ordered! Now to get the rest of that paper weight out of the 80.

I'm trying to convince the wife to let me make a coffee table out of the old block ala Top Gear. She's having none of it lol
