Spent a few hours cleaning the 60 tonight. Most of the time in the cab, but a little time under the hood.

The wiring harness was only connected by two plugs, so I took it out of the way to get a better look at my Vortec.

Soooooo over my head.

One little piece at a time Travis. Make a checklist, check things off. You mentioned you were off Monday and Tuesday? Not sure what things look like for me next week, but I'll try to stop by and look at that harness with you. See if any wires need to be weeded out of it, or if its ready to go to 150tunes (or anywhere else) like it is.

You can do this!

Find an electrical wiring diagram for that year. It is tedious but all you have to do is trace wires and it looks like there are already labels on wires. Did it on my efi conversion and you can too.

You should be fine.

... Make a checklist...

DONE!!!

  1. Get it running.
  2. Lift.
  3. Slap on some 35's.
  4. Wheel her like crazy.

..........on second thought, might need to be a bit more detailed. :grinpimp:

That list looks perfect.

Been doing a lot of reading tonight on swapping the 5.7 into a 60.

Like the B&M shifter Tony has in his 60, but saw this today and like this "Fake" manual look from Lokar...

5.7 with 4l60e FJ60.webp

Only downside is that it's twice the price of the B&M. :(

Wiring looks imposing the first time or two. But after you start digging through it for awhile it will start to make more sense. There are a limited number of sensors and a small computer. Just dive in and it will magically start making sense.

Worked on my fab skills a bit this morning.

You can tell by the articulation (or lack there of) in the last pic, I've got a lot to learn about setting up suspension. :hillbilly:

...and that's just what came with the Vortec, most of the 60 stuff is still in place.

OK, that's officially my last whinny post about the 60. Now back to working in the garage!!!

Well, another garage day......and ignored the harness again. :D Going to search the innerweb for a nice comprehensive wiring diagram.

Cleaned the garage a bit, did some grinding and sanding to see where the rust ends (these pics show the worst of it, MUCH better than the 55) and then started cleaning the seats (which were.....:hmm:......is there a dirtier word that filthy?).

Took my "Little Green Machine", some Folex, and went to work. Check out the water that came out of that little wet-vac!!! I'm going to go over them again tomorrow before I post any "After" pics. :D

See if you can find a wiring diagram for the motor you have then print out the schematic. Enlarge it enough so you can see it and have a little room for notes. Once you have the schematic taped together so you can see it as a whole versus pages of squigglies. From there try taking tape (blue painters works well) and start labeling connectors. Remember the basics first, air fuel, spark. Everything will fall into place. You may also find that there is some stuff you can remove to make it even easier. Persevere and it will show you the light!

I love my bissel little green! Purchased it as a gift for Shanna but somehow I'm the only one that ever touches it. Could be that it usually only comes out for dog barf or kid messes
