Thanks again Doug!!! :bounce::clap::bounce:

Sanding the top side of the cap...hopefully will get it painted and sealed by the end of next week. I may need some help sometime in the next few weeks to put the top on...more than a one man job. Should I post up a "strong man wanted" post??? :D
I hsoul dbe able to come help out it it's a weekend. Let me know when.

For when need to make that Vortec work, check out 150tunes.com. Ian on Xtreme 4x4 uses them all the time, when I was looking at swapping in a Vortec to the 4runner, they were the most affordable around. Can probably pull a harness at the pick and pull pretty cheap. Ecu's are getting hard to find, easy to pull, so people are pulling them and putting them on EBay all the time.

Cool. Thanks for the info. Still need to figure out exactly what I've got. Did a lot of research last night and there are quite a few variations under the "Vortec" name. I need to talk with Doug again, but I'm almost positive he has (well, I guess I have) a 1998ish GM crate engine 5.7 Vortec, which might be a bit of a unique breed. ???? Looks like there is going to be a steep learning curve for me.

Good luck Travis...love the new Cruiser! Now get it on the road.
Made progress on the cap today...its completely sanded down. Have a few nicks and gouges in the fiberglass I need to fill and sand down, but not too many. Also need to caulk the drip rail. Should have primer and paint on it by next weekend if the weather allows. I have to order the headliner and hard top install kit...so hopefully by Christmas I'll have the top on! Thanks for the help offer...I'll let you guys know when I'm ready!

Now that's project you will have fun with ;)

I think Doug gave me every harness from every auto he's ever owned.

Did you already get the block and head numbers? IIRC nastz28 forum has some good references for motor info.

No, I'll grab those #'s tomorrow. I'll check out that site. Would love to find a good site with Vortec info.

Ohhhh Yeahhhh!!! :D

Played with the 60 a bit yesterday.

The clearcoat is pealing (like on the drivers door), so I took a razor blade and pealed off most of it and then took some polishing compound and some elbow grease and buffed it out (like on the quarter panel). Need to get me a nice new HF buffer ASAP. Will need to wet sand, buff, then respray some clear. Should look pretty good for a dedicated wheeler.

Cleaned the interior. In good shape, but a few mice made it home for awhile so I had some cleaning to do...

Cleaned everything really well, but still smelt a bit funky, so I decided to pull the seats and carpet. Don't want to do what I did with the 55, take it ALL apart then have no idea where to go from there. Ultimately, I was glad I pulled it all. Underneath was a lot of mouse poop, dirt, mouse poop, found some rust spots to fix, and some more mouse poop.

Scrubbed and cleaned and got every last mouse dropping. How she sits now...

Here's a project I finished a few weeks ago.

After

The mantel & side posts are salvage timber from the Black Forest fire, put some stone veneer over the 70's era white brick and some slate over the concrete hearth. Can't see it in the 'after' photo but we also tore out the carpet and refinished the hardwood underneath and I inlaid slate in front of the fireplace - the old carpet, and the hardwood underneath both had significant burns there and I thought I should put something a little less flammable there.

Here's a pic of the slate inlay during the floor refinishing.

Yup, supposed to have 16" of non-combust able floor protection from the opening of the door. Can't tell you how many times that comes up on home sale inspections! Looks fantastic!
