Do FJ40’s get stolen in the Netherlands? Do they get stolen anywhere? What would someone even do with a stolen FJ40 in 2026?

I'd be curious about this as well. Not just for the Dutch, but for here.

I also wonder what the rate of stolen classic cars are versus modern vehicles. Locking the doors on a FJ40 is basically pointless. Most cars are pretty easy to break into without popping a window, the 40 all you need is a stick and your in. 5 seconds with a hammer and a screw driver becomes the new ignition key. lol

I'm certainly more concerned about my 40 being stolen than my F350, but the Ford is easy to replace, I could likely have another one in about 2 hours.
My 40 took a lot of effort, and a mountain of dollars to get it to where it's at. So I'm a little more protective with it.

I need to get after it and install something like the kill switch from cruiser outfitters.

....However....

I have NOT seen anyone with a ready-made hood lock that doesn't require drilling. I have seen some old threads in this vein but for whatever reason lots of the photos in the old threads go dead...I think the photos were perhaps hosted on old dead sites and linked here to mud? I think the simplest is somehow attaching a bike cable to the underside of the hood and then locking the other end to the frame. That appears to require the cable to be cinched up tight and probably only works on the hood corner to avoid getting something close to the fan blades. So I don't see how a cable is very optimal but would actually like to see some of these dead photos or new photos of cable locks people are proud of.

I've also seen the actual padlock and two L brackets attached to the bib and hood (drilling required).

Anyone ever directly replaced the hood latch itself with something that locks?

exact !!
the amount of work/cash is not (always) fully covered by the insurance company

Good point
If I want all risk insurance I need an independent taxation report
Not sure what kind of terms are than requested, my wife is checking this
Maybe a classic car insurance company exists in 🇳🇱 that will work with you.

I think Cruiser Cult sells a anti theft harness on their website. I've never dealt with them. Of course they don't disclose how it works. I would want something I can arm from the driver seat.
Have one ordered soon and chatted with them....really nice design and some good hiding locations were provided. This is the way.

we found one
not that easy
a classic car has a limited milage to drive with of 15k kilometers
otherwise you need a 'normal car' insurance, which is much higher (can go to €1000, depending on weight and what is the car's value)

I asked also for more info:)
let's find out....

I came here to ask this exact question.....and glad to see you already thought the same.

I think clearly it depends on where you are located as to what happens to stolen 40s. I put little sway in the argument that people can't drive stick shift in my area. There are just way too many old trucks still plying the roads in the 4 corners area for kids / adults to not know how to drive them. For a rural area like mine...i'd bet the number one thing that would happen would be "stolen for a joyride". I'd bet some of those 40s we see on here that got "burned" are probably joyrides that ended in it getting rolled and burned in an attempt to mask the culprits. Rural boredom for young adults ends in idiocy sometimes.

I just installed one of these on each of my FJ40's from Cruiser Cult. Easy to install works as intended:
