Bumping this thread. Just took a road trip so it was a good time to get some data. I don't drive the 80 a lot so don't often track mileage. Stock other than Safari turbo system, sliders, and 285/75/16.

Denver to Raton: Starting odo 189,285 - ending odo 189,495. 210 miles. Gauge was about on 1/4 full. But I have 285s so checked with Google maps and it's 218 miles going the way we did. Put 16.519 gallons in. So that's 12.7 mpg by the odo or 13.2 mpg by the Googles. Family of 4, packed for travel, going 80 on I-25. PWR button on, 40 psi in the tires. Correction factor for tires is 3.8%.

Raton to Santa Fe: started 189,495, ended 189,711. 215.5 miles. Gauge again about 1/4 full. Put 18.572 gallons in. 11.6 mpg by the odo. Again going 80 on I-25. It was super windy. Corrected is 12.0 mpg.

Santa Fe to Salida on US 285: 189,711-189,949. 238 odo miles. Gauge was above the 1/4 mark. Put 15.634 gal in. 15.2 odo mpg. 15.8 mpg corrected mpg. Did about 5 over the whole way.

Salida to Denver on US 285: 189,949-190,074. 125 odo miles. Gauge was above the 1/2 mark. Put 8.076 gal in. 15.5 odo mpg. 16.1 corrected mpg. I did a lot of passing on this section of 285, but it's also mostly downhill.

...why do you suppose it got dramatically better ?

Santa Fe is higher than Denver so we were going downhill on the way back. Plus going 60-70 instead of 80. And it was seriously windy from Raton to Santa Fe, especially after Las Vegas. A headwind for a while.

11 - 12.5 mpg in town
14 mpg on highway, 70 mph avg.
15.5 mpg on highway, 60 mph avg.
19.5 mpg on 200 mile stretch of the Natchez Trace, 50 mph avg.

All speeds were checked with GPS. FE numbers were corrected for tire size. I'm running 285/75-16 BFG ATs @40 psi on the truck.

315/75 KO2s 66 lbs each plus way heavier than stock 16x10 steelies.

4.88 gears.

Otherwise stock.

Usually congested LA metro conditions.

~14mpg

If you are worried about MPG, a Land Cruiser is not for you.... LOL:rofl::rofl::rofl:

For another point of reference.

315/75R16 BFG KO2's and stock gearing.

I have been daily driving it for the last week or so logging about 100miles per day. Avg per tank between 13.9 and 14.1 corrected for tires.

What's the math you do for the correction factor? Thanks.

I run a Scanguage, so I have corrected it that way also using GPS as a backup.

fro the 285 which is roughly a 33" tire, you use 5% correction. so I'm guessing between 5 and 10%. hit the highway and do the mile marker thing...

I'm asking that dude cuz he's running the same size as I am 315/75R16 - what's the correction for 35s iPhone calculator at gas station style? Also curious to compare since I'm 4.88s. Danke.

best: around 15, very first tank (on 265 tires) was 14.7, although I do recall breaking 15 a couple times. Lifted on 265s/75r16

Now I've got 315's and a good tank will be around 14.5, a bad tank around 13. Really bad tank (Westbound across Wyoming, trying to keep up on I-80, constant 40-50mph headwind, plus pulling the wife's camper) was around 10mpg.

I recently did 13.7 pulling the trailer on two separate trips with the same origin/endpoint (up the mountain, then back down). So that seems to be a pretty reliable metric for a typical trip with the camper.

I believe it is 9 or 10%, just cant remember exactly. I ran the gps while setting the correction in the Scanguage until they both matched.

If the speedometer was calibrated for 275/70/16 tires (which I think is the stock size), then 315/75/16 is 11% larger circumference. So you would need to multiple your mileage by 1.11 to correct for the larger tires.

If you wanted to measure for real I guess you would need to do some more careful calibration with GPS or driving on a straight, long road with mile markers.

Ill be checking it on this next tank, as before it was 11 unloaded average stock gears and 35’s. 9 on the highway fully loaded trying to get to camp spots as early as possible.

Now with 4.88 on the 35’s i use way less peddle, i know i use less gas but its all been city driving for break in. I use it to run errands instead of my work truck, so it always mostly city. If i had to guess, 14, but thats just a guess. I also did a full tune up, so that had to help. Ill report back with facts.
