my carb cooling fan is back in action, after all the bs, which turned out to be a dirty connector going into the cooling fan relay ... it works even better now that I put yellow tape around the wires i.e. the way it came from the factory (lol) ... will finetune it by including the fuse protector wrapped with yellow tape once I'm convinced its really fixed ... the thread "fj40 carb cooling fan ... do you run yours" is an excellent resource including where/how much yellow tape was on the fuse/wires ...

Drove about 50kms in the ute over the weekend with some of that on a local dirt track to give everything a good shake. Few things to tighten up and rattles to investigate now, but overall I am stoked with it.

I CHANGED OUT MY FACTORY 55 AMP ALTERNATOR FOR A FORD FOCUS 100 AMP.

I WOULD HAVE PREFERRED TO GET A GM ALTERNATOR BUT IT WAS HARD TO REFUSE THE GUY AT THE SHOP THAT REWORKED THE FORD ALT TO FIT PREFECTLY WHERE THE STOCK ONE WENT AND HE DID IT FOR FREE !!!

IT IS ONE WIRE. INTERNALLY REGULATED.

THE DIMENSIONS OF STOCK AND FORD ALT ARE REALLY CLOSE. BUT HE DID DO SOME GRINDING ON THE ALT HOUSING TO WIDEN THE BOTTOM SO IT WOULD FIT OVER THE STOCK BRACKET.

HE GROUND DOWN THE ALT HOUSING SO IT WOULD FIT OVER STOCK BRACKET. THAT IS THE FACTORY BOLT. I ALSO
POLISHED THE BRACKET MOUNTING POINTS AND APPLIED ELECTRICAL GREASE TO HELP GROUND THE ALT HOUSING. I WILL INSTALL GROUND WIRE TO BATTERY LATER.

THAT IS 6 AWG RUNNING DIRECTLY TO + BATTERY. TIDDIED THINGS UP BY ADDING MORE ELECTRICAL GREASE TO FACTORY CONNECTOR AND TAPING IT UP TO KEEP OUT CORROSION AND ZIPPED TIED ALL TOGETHER.

I DID HAVE TO USED DIFFERENT BOLT FOR THE TOP BRACKET BECAUSE THE FORD HOUSING WASNT THREADED LIKE THE STOCK HOUSING. AND WITH A LITTLE MORE MODIFICATION WAS ABLE TO USE STOCK ADJUSTER.

AND WAS ABLE TO USE STOCK PULLEY AND USED EXISTING ALT BELT.

Wow Twisty!! that looks amazing. Its not a standard FJ45 bed; where is it from? I'm going to save these pictures for reference.

Thanks! I bought a rusty old standard bed, then had a local sheet metal company fold up some sides and tailagte to match the original profile. Then just built the rest myself. Was a massive job and ended up kinda expensive, but I am stoked with the result.

I second the Wow Twisty. That thing is sweet.

Thanks!

Installed rear sideglass, corner glass, Ambulance door glass. Then ran some CCOT seals around everthing. Finally got rear sides and doors! If I had a do over I would wait until I had cash for OEM water seals. Nontheless I'm almost ready for the lid install. Missing the back header brace for in between the lid and rear Ambulance doors. May try to fab something temporarily until I can find a replacement.

Installed some new Energy poly bushing, Bilstein 5100 shocks front and rear, OME steering damper then took her to the beach.
