I'm always learning new things about our old Land Cruisers.

Over in this part of the world those lights always blink with the other amber turn signals.

And it's not just with Cruisers, but with any car. I have this '06 Cayenne as my DD, and the side markers don't blink. I remember when I first got it, I asked the dealer if there's a defect. The sales guy, who is around these cars daily, didn't know either, so he checked it on another car. That's when we both learned that side markers don't blink!

It's kinda strange when you think about it. When you're on the side of the car, you can't tell if the driver wants make a turn. Isn't that the whole point of having a blinker?

Installed aftermarket window regulators in my '71 today. Quality seems good although the previous ones were not working and are 44 years old. Color is gold instead of silver pewter which is a shame.

Replaced the wonky starter motor with a gear reduction starter, and put a bikini top on at the request of the ! She's wicked excited, which is great, since she controls the budget headed to the FJ-40 project.... next up is new shackles, spring pins, shocks, bushings, and rear spring pins.

My feeble mind tells me the blinkers, located on the front and rear of our U.S. spec LC's, are primarily to let on-coming traffic know you are turning left (for the most part), and the vehicles behind you that you are making a turn of some sort, thus should slow down.....I don't think traffic coming at you from the sides will care if you are making a turn or not. They just want you out of their way, as you are blocking/impeding their progress and will probably give the finger as their approval/disapproval.....

Note: If you build an FJ40 and it's motion mimics a crab, then side blinkers may be necessary.

But then again, I'm just a poor ole country boy from rural GA.

As a motorcyclist, when I'm cruising alongside vehicles on motorways I definitely have a vested interest in knowing when such vehicles develop a sudden compulsion to change lanes (but admitedly they often don't indicate before doing so anyway)...

PS. Obviously "cruising alongside a vehicle while on a motorbike" is not wise ... but occasionally it's unavoidable.

OH.....Being in the rural parts of GA, two lane roads are more abundant, but I hear ya Brother.

Back in the day, when Drives Education was taught in the school, it was the "Cardinal Sin" not to check "position six" when changing lanes to the left on the highway. In the U.S., that is to check over your left shoulder before changing/switching lanes. Failure to do so, would drop you back to "Campus Driving", equivalent to sitting in the corner with a Dunce Hat on.

I put in my new clutch master cylinder and new clutch hose as well as a new clutch slave cylinder. I re sprayed the Bedliner in the tub, installed the interior. Next week I am replacing all 8 brake cylinders and the beast will be back on the road.

Changed oil , figured out what in the world was causing the loud whack on every bump in the rear - shock bushings are gone , oops . Been driving the Taco to work , hate that but the old '77 decided to spring a pretty good fuel leak at the tank . Time to figure out why the system keeps pressurizing so much...

So I got tired of my temporary tailgate holder solution and went to work on a close approximation of the factory set up.

Crawled into the engine compartment to try to clean it up while it's so big and roomy

Got the firewall fairly clean, but had to slink down and crawl out the bottom when my hip, knee and ankle started killing me again.

I had 8 injections Thursday (trigger points and discs) and am going to suck it up and go camping/fly fishing for two weeks in Colorado.

But, when I stand for more than a minute or walk more than 30 feet, I gotta squat/sit/lie down. The injections should be at their best the first week in Colorado, so I'm gonna try to fish, but carry my old iPhone 3, with audio books... I'd rather sit on the river bank and listen to a good book at 10k' than sit here in Vegas and sweat.

Gonna get my daughter and her boy friend to load the Tundra. I'll have the trailer ready, in dribs and drabs and Dianna will have all the food packed.

I'm towing 44 back to the guy to install the engine on Tues and we'll leave for CO on Sat, week from today.

Any day in God's great outdoors is far better than being at home in a chair, even if you have to sit on the river bank. You'll be in my prayers that you'll be up to more walking around than sitting.

X2 Danny, us old war vets have a lot of aches and pains. Like I tell someone when they ask about my Purple Heart license plate "it only hurts when I smile". My lovely wife and I just got back from three and a half weeks in Gunnison, CO and it was lovely. Cool and low humidity beats hot and humid any day of the week. Hope you and your family have a great vacation.

Thanks Don! You are absolutely correct... Especially the outdoors that we camp/fly fish in every July-August!!

I'll return with pictures... And will share a few... But, sans 44 for a while longer... I'm not rushing the engine installer... It may be ready when I return or it may be a bit longer... As long as it's done correctly... Plus the installer will take it to the muffler shop for new exhaust before I pick it up.

It'll sure be great to get it back and make a trip with the boys, but I may have to wait until spring to head north on a long trip... But, I did buy a pair of snow chains a couple of months ago... Hmm...

We had one trip, several years ago that Dianna had to rush me 1.5hrs to the ER at La Jara, CO hospital. After 6 hrs, turned out to be pleurisy. The next day, I had to rush her to the same ER, with a broken wrist. We both survived and neither of us wanted to go home early. We had a great time!! Unfortunately the ER doctor didn't set Dianna's wrist right, so the Orthopedist, at home, had to reset it, with a titanium plate. Insurance paid $34k... And Dianna is even more precious!!
