Today I replaced the tool bag straps.

Found a hex head wrench in my junk drawer that fit the fill plug on the new diff cover. Painted it to match so it's easier to find in the tool bag.
New calipers in the rear. Grandson pumped brakes while I bled, he started pretend-shifting when I wasn't looking, he's a natural.

I've been taking stock of what we have for this HJ47 and looking around the truck in general. I had no idea that the alternator on the 2H was oil cooled or that mine wasn't tight at all.

So far I've:
  • Ordered a ton of Lucas Oil heavy duty gear oil (80w90) because I plan to refresh both diffs, trans and transfer case
  • Gave it an oil change with Rotella 15w-40, thankfully there were some new spare oil filters in the parts I got
  • Installed the headlight switch
  • I swapped the battery from my 60 over to the 47 because it didn't come with one. Its cranking which is a good sign.
  • Checked that the wipers and HVAC work
What I need:
  • Check the gas tank if there's any diesel in there. It's been sitting for a couple years and I don't want to put old fuel through it
  • Find or source an intake hose. I have the intake box and filter, but I'm missing the hose that connects it to the intake. Also, does anyone know what screws mount the filter to the fender? I don't seem to have them. My filter box was in the parts pile
  • Figure out the wiring on the dump bed. I see the switch and some of the wires run to the bed, but it's a mess between those and the taillight wiring
Does anyone know what battery I should be using for this truck? I'd ask in the diesel section but it seems pretty dead in comparison.

I dont think the alternator is oil cooled rather than it is the vac pump on the back which is oil lubricated.
The filter uses 3 or 4 bolts that run through the inner guard and a couple others. look from the outside about level with the top of the tyre.
Battery would be an N70 with the correct terminal orientation.
Hope that helps!

Big help, thank you! I don’t suppose you know what this connection is supposed to go to?

It’s right above the starter and I don’t see anything near it that would fit. There’s also a single wire connector labeled “Block” but it’s the same deal. No nearby obvious connections.

Not all plugs have things plugged into them. I have a BJ40 but can check if they are similar. Maybe the EDIC motor or something like that

I did some basic maintenance today on my 40. Oil change, tire rotation, new fan belt & new hood latches. I was having issues with the fan belt slipping I believe it was stretched/too long so I’m trying out the OEM Toyota belt now.

Parts used today:
Oil: 20w50 Royal Purple HPS
Filter: Denso 150-2066
Toyota OEM Fan Belt: 99343-11265-77
Toyota OEM Hood Latch: 53506-90900

Mine disappeared decades ago. Don't have a carb anymore either.

Re-bled all my brakes. Something Charlie M @charliemeyer007 said in a previous post got me thinking. I used one of those HF vacuum bleeders (they literally and figuratively suck) and had spongey brakes. CM said you had to use thread sealer to get a good seal so you aren’t sucking air along with the brake fluid. The wife assisted in the pumping and holding and I ran the wrench at the caliper.

Worked awesomely.

Thanks CM.
