What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Rebuilt the knuckles, installed the aussie front locker and new clutch master/slave. Ready to cruise!

:o Slave cylinder lasted less than an hour. When it crapped, it did so with the clutch disengaged, so I was stranded. Luckily a couple guys helped me push it off the road. I was eventually able to get it to release, and was able to "double clutch" it on home. Re-installed the old one for now. :meh:

Built some oem style bucket seat support brackets for my Honda City seats. Not pretty but works very well for my height and leg length and slides up enough so that my 5' 2":princess:can drive. Used my wire welder to build up stripped gear teeth on my driver's door window regulator then ground them down with a cut off wheel. Works okay until I can find a replacement here.

Nice! Just curious, do you leave the Hi Jack mounted? Or take it off when not wheeling? Mine is 60" and looks like a flag pole mounted on the step. May put mine on the roof rack.

Big Blue came home!!!

After 3 months at my buddy's shop, and a bill that I thought would never end, Big Blue ('75 FJ40) came home to daddy.

Took it in in December, needing a major tune up, new carb and work on the front end. After learning that my original 2F was only running on 2 cylinders, the focus was to replace the engine. Because I want to try to keep it all stock, we did alot of web surfing and found a 2F in New Hampshire for $1200. Shipped it out here to So. Cal, got a new carb. Intake manifold was accidently thrown in with the scrap metal, so my buddy bought a new one from SOR. Headers were wasted when trying to take them off the motor so I had to order a 6-in-1 from Man-a-Fre. New water pump, new tie rod ends, new battery, new belt, few new wires and we are good to go for a little while...until I tackle a new radiator, steering box rebuild and new Mean Green alternator and starter. hahahaha. Good times!

1) I'd shorten your fuel supply line before it sags down and touches the header. Had it happen to a clutch line once... Much worse with a fuel line.

2) Steering looks scary.

3) Front end could benefit from a cut and turn to improve pinion angles, and also castor angle. Does it tend to dart around the road when you hit bumps?

4) Parts at SOR are priced like they're gold plated... I'd recomend Marks Off Road, the classifieds, or other vendors here on mud for parts you need.

Installed longer 6 inch shackles and 6 degree castor shims.
Went from 4 inch shakles and no castor shims......Man what a difference in the way it steers!!!!!

I defintely have to address the steering for sure. Before they added the tie rod ends and steering stabilizer, it was white knuckle driving all the way for me. This is a temporary band-aid fix until I get to replacing the steering linkage and rebuild the steering box. My buddy recommended the bushings on the leaf springs get replaced as well.

Any links you can lead me to for steering linkage? Where can I find parts for hi steer? I am a semi newbie at this, so please bear with me.

Many sources. Call Marlin (crawler) or Grorge at Valley Hybrids, or 4x4 Labs or any other reputable vendor on this board. Many different options but if I were you I would not drive it like that.. My 2cents.... Use the search function..

I leave the jack mounted. With the windshield up it doesn't seem so tall. A 60" jack is a tall one for sure.

Installed an Auburn LS in the rear and new ring and pinion. Required converting from shims to crush collar for pinion bearing preload.
New axle bearings as well. No axle bearing washers were in there when the bearings were removed, but installed new ones.

I replaced the all of the spark plugs and did a compression check while I was at it. Here are the numbers. This was a wet test.
Cyl 1 125
Cyl 2. 125
Cyl 3. 115
Cyl 4. 150
Cyl 5. 155
Cyl 6. 175.

Waiting for time had the bright idea to show some landrover enthusiasts how it's done and took me and my weekend driven fj40 to the low gear experience here in Holland. It went really well for a first time!
