Sanding and priming.

Finally done with the new speakers on the last warm day for a few. It’s been as high as 82* after 5 degrees only 3 weeks ago. I changed out the radio/cd player for a Bluetooth adapter amp. Happy to report the freakin’ $20.00 item actually works great. Paired the phone in about 20 seconds after the power was turned on. While I have had cell phone services since 1988 ( that lunchbox sized thing on the transmission hump) the phones have so much versatility and selectivity I figured I’d give it a try in the 40 for a while.

Amazing what can be accomplished with ignorant ambition and stubbornness. Probably overly ambitious to drive it by end of summer but we will see.

I am always in awe of a glossy paint finish !!! Looks fantastic @Pitter Patter

Replaced the battery tray. I put it in 25 years ago, in 2001. I remember it specifically because it was a point in time where I was spending a lot of time in my home garage sorting out the meaning of life after my dad died.

I went to take out my 6 and a half year old battery to replace it (still holds a charge but didn’t want to trust it to go camping with anymore) and discovered that one of the two holddown studs had snapped off at the swivel. Despite the tray having the typical coating of sulphur, the stud was still full thickness. It broke at the weld, which to me means heat fatigue.

So, like Mark Jennings posted the other day about his brake light switch, I wonder if I will get 25 years out of this battery tray?🤔

“Amazing what can be accomplished with ignorant ambition and stubbornness” I like that - gonna print it out and hang it in my cab! 🤣

First real outing with it since the rebuild. Took it to the local 4x4 jamboree course for some “light” testing on a very slippery, rainy day.

She did well. On the way there though one or more of my injectors got stuck open so on the low end she was running way too rich, but at WOT she was fine.

Found out though that one of my free spool hubs is completely lunched and the other appears to be the latest Bluetooth model! That’s what I get for assuming when someone says it’s all good and I don’t bother to check :bang:

Other than that, had a blast. Ripping around at 6000 rpm in low range in the wet is a great way to relieve stress!

Yours turned out way better then mine. But it looks like you do this for a living? Nice paint job.

@fj40fillet I had not seen a rack for the jack stands ever…. I am fabricating one up this weekend…
Old dog, new tricks. Love that idea thanks for posting it

Tried several times. Didn't make it.

Nope.webp

Was trying to get up to some snow fora bit of peace and quiet. It's not an issue when things are dry but the rain had soaked the lower elevations pretty well. My diffs gouged out that groove down the center hump while sliding back down. Taller/better tires would've helped. Had fun anyway.

Finally took a graded road up higher. The snow had all but melted away but I was the first one down this path in a while.

Point is I got the thing muddy :)

Warm weather means getting out more in the 40.

I still need some help dialing in the carb…holding the gas pedal and clutch (and brake) at the same time while stopped to keep it going isn’t always super easy…..drives no problem but when stopping or at a complete stop it will diesel and die unless giving it gas. :(
