Having to do the same thing, not a lot of room to work with in there.I installed a new brake light switch from @cityracer. It was a ‘Nakamoto’. As I put the dash panel back in thought to myself, ‘will this one last 56 years’![]()

Minor resto-mod this week. After "modernizing" the cabin light to turn on when I open the doors (build thread), I took advantage of the pressure-switches, repurposed an FJ40 seatbelt warning buzzer, and, well, here you go:
I mounted it using the top bolt of the emissions control computer (not sure why I haven't removed that, its literally unplugged), its powered by the corner / parking lights connector off the headlight switch (green wire on a '78). The ground is tied into the wire that connects the dome light to the ground via all the pressure switches on the doors.
I found out the hard way that when the headlight switch is completely off, it grounds the green wire to the corner lights (which in this configuration meant that both the buzzer and dome light turned on when the light switch was off and the door was closed, so I put a diode in-line between the headlight switch and the buzzer. Problem fixed!
Minor mod, but I did it for the karma... Im daily driving the truck and in the last month, I've forgotten to turn the lights off twice. It just so happens that in both cases, someone I knew was nearby, saw the truck, and found me to tell me. Figured the universe was telling me I was out of freebies![]()

Looks greatI started it for the first time in 2,161 days…but whose counting.
Thanks @cruisermatt for getting me over the final hurdle with the distributor to check my sanity. It turns out I didn’t need it, but it helped me diagnose my no-spark stupidity and it’s staying for now.
