The gussets behind the rear crossmember most likely wont handle the load. With the receiver below the crossmember, the leverage will bend or twist it up from the bottom and out slightly. No doubt, you made it stronger. Just be careful what you hook on to.

The plate is one inch thick. It will support the force. Calculating the force I came up with 13.7 tons to bend it
So……. No pulling dump trucks out of the mud and you’re good! :grinpimp:

The plan is to tow a 1500 lb sail boat to it 80 pounds of tongue weight. Later a small camper. The shackle is just a pretty toy for the most part

Drove around aimlessly.

......and stopped for a pic

anything special on the motor, high lift cam or something else or bone stock. Just curious. I have an 81 block/bottom end that I have on the back burner for my 74. The head is already done, nothing special but back to spec. Debating on a cam change for a little more oompf and just wondering what you did.
Essentially stock but addressed wear; bored 1st over on the block, ground 1st under on the crank, balanced everything. No other changes from stock. Was blown away by how out of balance it was from the factory. I purchased 2 different rods because two of them were so heavy we couldn't machine enough off.

Installed the oil pump and pan. I’ve been sick lately and my brain hasn’t been braining so it took a little longer than it should. Torqued to mid-90’s inch lbs. Some bonus fun pics up in dat bottom end.

Happy to report that the bolts I plated handled being wrenched on with no signs of wear so take that ChatGPT!

Boy... This brings back some memories... I rebuilt my 74 engine back in the mid 80's. Don't forget to prime your oil pump. 😁 I didn't and had no oil pressure when I started it up the first time. Couldn't figure it out until someone with more engine building experience helped me out..🤣😂😎

Many thanks. Yes, I had heard that just a simple balance makes a huge difference. Thanks for letting me know.

Just about done with the re- rebuild. Now to start test driving, shaking it down, see what comes loose and fixing that
