my next project

So What have I done? LOTS!!!
here's a look at my current project. my plans are to start a thread a little later on.
specs: (so far)

1. Base vehicle is a 1977 FJ40
2. Full float rear diff
3. Disk brake conversion on rear full floater
4. Front diff was not from 77 so it had to have disks with locker
5. Man-A-Fre Mojave leaf spring suspension kit with shocks, shackel reversal, u-bolt flip kit
6. saganaw power steering
7. 4x4 labs power steering mounting plates
8. 4x4 labs crossover steering for SUA setup
9. 4x4 labs pitman arm
10. Stock 4 speed and transfer case
11. Mark's adapter, Center Force 11 clutch and pressure plate
12. GM Tuned Port Injection 5.7 (350) 1991 with custom harness, serpentine belt system
13. Ram style exhaust manifold (not installed in the pic below)
14. aluminum radiator with Taurus fan
15. Aqualu body with 77 cowl (waiting on paint)
16. Downy rear bumper extension with custom hitch

I think that covers the specs.

got my clutch all dialed in, brakes are still only about 65%... but getting there
took the carb apart (still on the manifold, just wanted to change my jets)
filled it up with premium, some lead additive, and drove it(!) put 30 mi. on this morning, and i sure hope that she makes it home tonight!

by the way, i never introduced myself to the forum.. hey, i'm doug, i recently acquired a 65 that's just about all stock, and i'm in charge of getting the thing back to fully reliable driving condition. it was my pop's idea, his truck for the mtns. of the western slope of co., so he may post under this sn also. thanks!

Primed and painted the frame with KBS Rustseal and Chassis coat black. Wish I had sprayed it to get better into the inside of the frame members...

Replaced lower radiator hose , replaced upper hose, replaced old water temp sensor, checked plugs and points.... Got it all starting and running good ..... Then broke a short axle shaft...

Used it to pull my 4 door diesel F350 off the log I had high centered it on the night before IN MY DRIVEWAY. Doh! Wasn't sure about pulling a 6800lb truck off a log without any help from the truck and with the cruiser's tires in the grass... but it didn't even flinch. Pulled it right off.

I can only think of one truck ever I've not been able to unstick with a cruiser... and that's mostly becuase they had got it stuck up to the doors in sticky mud and were too stoned/stupid to help me get them unstuck. I handed him a tow strap and told him to put it somewhere solid... I turn around after getting my end on and he had tied it (in a knot) around his aluminum latter rack.... "dude, everything else is under the mud, I don't want to get all dirty" Hum... you know what, here's my phone, call a tow truck. hahah.

Oh.. and found this little guy that a friend made for me, going to weld it on tomorrow finally:

Replaced a rear 3rd member with phone support from Georg, replaced all drivetrain fluids. Got 1 slider installed and 1 to go.

I built an iPad mount for my FJ40. Turned out pretty well and cost me some aluminum scraps I had in the barn and about $4 worth of stainless steel screws and nuts. Now I've got maps, GPS, compass and clinometer all set to go.

That's pretty cool...A+ for creativity.

Picked up a oem winch bumper that is in great condition. Also picked up a couple 8274s to rebuild so I cab use one on my 40 build.

Over the past two weekends, dealt with neglected maintenance:
-free up and lube adjusters
-rebuild one wheel cylinder
-flush brake fluid
-adjust all shoes
-replace gear oil rear axle
-grease all fittings
-replace ignition switch

Test fitted a 37 for s***s n giggles; maybe 35's would be more realistic.

Ready to put insurance on it and go for a drive .

my fuel tank is relocated to under the rear tub so there is a speaker under the PS as well.

If you're thinking that way, don't mess around, Spring over, flip the springs, and trim those fenders... 37s will fit.
