Today.. 1: Added some old school eye hooks and "safety" straps to my eye Fj40. I just think the old style look is cool! Had to cut two sides of a 10mm x1.25 mm nut down to fit in the original spot as the old 40's had. I added a good metal bonding to keep them in place when I removed them to install my hard top and doors.
2: Had my original seat belts cleaned and new web/belt installed professionally on the original winding lock.

Amazing would have been he fixed it by himself on the spot.

The neighbor lady broke down a couple hundred miles away in the out back at o'dark thirty in a snow storm. Her mechanic (which I don't think much of his skills) went and got her car running - I thought that was awesome and glad it was him and not me.

Yeah, $190 from rock auto for a new tank. I just like the idea of fixing/keeping what OE.

I honestly don’t think my tank is that bad…
Only reason I bought mine is that my tank and protector had a big dent so not able to add the original capacity of fuel. Driving range is tough as is, with even fewer gallons was not what I wanted for how spread out things are here. Else I would have fixed what I have.

A little more karma in Burbank.

I bought a used steering wheel from @James Madigan in the classifieds a couple of weeks ago. It was advertised as being from a 72, but even from the pics, I had my doubts. When I opened the box, the phone rang, so I just started cleaning it up while I was talking on the phone. A half hour later, I was pretty pleased with the results.

When I took it into the shop though, it just fell through the’72 steering shaft. Sure enough, pre-7/69 36 spline. Well there goes the resale.

But wait!

I’ve been driving the 45 for the last 20 years with a shiny wheel with TEN CRACKS IN IT!

This one has only one crack, in the backside. So, 10 minutes later, the 45 has a shiny 60 year old wheel in it.😊 And to top it off, waiting for the right occasion, I installed the suicide knob that I got from @Dallas Todd a couple of years ago. Been running a squeaky JC Whitney one for 30 years. Finally a quiet new one.

This week the 47 adventure took a new twist less than a week after passing its last ever mot, it blew 2 x15amp engine fuses, so there's still a short somewhere on the drivers side (RHD) & l snapped the handbrake cable (it was only 6mths old) last night carrying about a ton of wood & stopping on a hill to open a gate & tonight the low beam packed up (bulb). On the upside all the parts to make a (via the fuel pump) engine stop cable set up arrived...soon l won't have to get out the cab to turn the ute off & l can temporarily park it in gear until the hand brake cables fixed in 2 weeks time...l'm still waiting for the new loom quote and the front exhaust header pipe is deliverable from Australia...(hurrah)... and its only tuesday.

Mark, I've been looking for a steering wheel for my '63. Maybe your old one needs a new home?

Out for a drive again and suddenly started hearing some knocking noise, pulled off the freeway... another tow home.

Alternator belt was loose so maybe water pump wasn't working enough to keep the engine cool. started getting hot before I pulled off the road.
Once home I tightened the belt and noticed oil spattered in the engine bay... dip stick wasn't pushed on properly. :( :( Also noticed there's a pretty good knocking noise which sounds like a potential bent push rod.... adventures of owning a pig

Leave me a voicemail with your offer. If I like it, I’ll call you back.😉

I once had a rig in where the dipstick WAS the knock! And another one where there was an oil pan/oil pump clearance issue that pushed something over to one of the crank’s massive counterweights.

In ALL possibilities, pulling the oil pan for an eyeballs look is an absolute requirement .

Hmmmmm. Sounds like I might have to go columbo on this one. Thanks for the suggestion. Sure sounds like it's in the upper part of the motor. Only one way to find out. Fun weekend ahead ;)

Wow where did you get that handbrake cable!? Can't imagine snapping mine easily.
Be careful parking in gear on a slope - if it rolls down the hill it will fire up and keep going until your diesel runs out! There's nothing to stop it. I believe this is also possible in reverse but don't quote me on that.
You could fit a line lock if you need to supplement the handbrake

If memory serves me right Australia..l think... l did have abt a ton maybe slightly more in the back & not for the 1st time & l did give it a good heave..(my bad) new cable ordered, meantime l'm setting up the pull stop cable etc today...so when l stop/cut off l can put it in gear & chock the wheels for the next 2 weeks...now when l drive off....Chocks away it'll feel like a tiger moth...tally ho chaps....

My day so far....Routed the stop pull cable, cut brackets, spent 3 hrs trying to drill out the pump arm for the cable end, took the arm off the pump (carefully removed the pump arm wedge) still haven't succeeded in drilling out the arm (of course my good drills are nowhere to be found) so l decided to refit it & come up with a stop gap set up until its drilled out, proceeded to dropped the wedge (l've spent 2hrs looking for it & for now l've given up as its getting dark)..l'll look out a magnet & meantime 'adapt' a coin just in case tomorrow isn't a successful morning hunt... domestic chores be damned...

I guess going four wheeling counts!
