What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

First time I’ve heard that opinion about Dobinsons. What sucks about them? They are night and day difference on my 60, I’ll never go back to OME. Eventually I’ll redo the suspension on my 40 so I’m interested in hearing your take.

The springs are very very soft. Don’t know if you saw my rig at SAS but it had no hardtop and minimal stuff in the bed, just some tools and what not, spare tire on driver side and a 5 gallon Jerry can mounted to an old plate style spare tire carrier from an earlier 40 (added to counter the gnarly lean that developed from the weight of my spare and my fat, 160 lb azz) and I was banging the bump stops on simple trails like Cinnamon and Red Mountain.
Also blew out one of my Bilsteins in the front on Gov Canyon. I’m not a hard or fast driver by any means.

Add to this, the military wraps were overly large (confirmed then half azzed walked back by Dobinson’s) and was told by them to just bang them closed with a sledgehammer. They wouldn’t take them back or give me a new set.

A definite waste of money.

On my 62 they’re slightly better but also developing a lean to the driver’s side. They’re like a pogo stick though, I don’t love them on the 62 either.

I know of several other people who have similar views.

I definitely got a bad batch on the 40 set, the vendor was indifferent at best and the company was worthless.

Sorry to hear that, for me Skyjackers for the price. I’m not sure there are a bunch of us running them but I don’t hear those that do complain about them.

PM me if you want my OME’s, they’ll at least get you down the road.

I have been waiting on redline, but am thinking about just going skyjacker 2.5” soft ride. Mine rides great right now, I just have no idea what the springs or shackles are (not OEM), and I don’t want to make the ride quality worse.

If it’s riding the way you want, then leave well enough alone

@RevISK The Dobbies on my 60 are definitely softer, but I intentionally set them up that way. I have to be careful about bouncing the front end on the bump stops. I can see the annoyance there. The poor manufacturing though, no excuse for that. Anyway, duly noted. I’m trying to keep my 40 close to stock, so maybe I’ll just buy old used springs somewhere haha.

What does that mean? T-REX was taken. I have my HAM call sign as a plate. The state gives me that personal plate for free, other wise I wouldn't pay extra.

Short for Toyotasaurus Wrecks (King of the dinosaurs). Also can pronounce it "trecks" if you like. I got the plates in 1993 but lost them in Co. Had to jump through a couple hoops with the DMV to get them back.

Same here. Radio Operator plates are dirt cheap, plus in Texas, you can have the same plates on all the vehicles you own if you want.

Got out and about in my 40 and enjoyed a little Hawaiian sunshine! To keep it TEQ…my new leather steering wheel wrap I installed helped to maintain a nice non slip-grip with the residual coconut sunning oil left on my hands. A little safety tip while driving if you ever find yourself in that situation.

Here in NJ you get a deal on Amateur Radio plates. I paid $25.00 for the original set back 9n the 90’s and you can have the same plates on your other cars. It’s followed with a small -2, -3, -4 or however many vehicles are registered .

@Aloha Jen that is something I need to do. Not because of suntan lotion but I have always felt the steering wheel is too skinny and a greater thickness would have a better grip with larger hands. Particularly that the vehicles I drive for daily use are newer with thicker steering wheels. Is this a custom made part? Looks nicely done.

Thanks. It’s just a leather cover I bought off the internet. It’s pretty time consuming to hand sew it, but it’s not difficult to do if you are patient. But this is the correct size you need to fit the oddly large and skinny fj40 steering wheel:

I have 3 of these on the Pig. Every 8 or 9 years it seems I wear a hole in the old one, I just put another one on over it.
