Did some rust/bondo removal on the top this week.
I've been using a Harbour Freight Titanium Flux 125 welder. It's an inverter welder and it works pretty good on thicker metals. Since it is flux core, it burns a bit too hot for sheet metal. It's working, but I wouldn't do this again without gas. Notice the porosity. This was caused by fighting the slag buildup while trying to fill where it burnt through.
Now just need to figure out how to fix the impact on the side. Not sure how to proceed without making a complete mess of things. Any suggestions welcome.

You can try to force It in its position and hammer and dolly the 90degree part. If you force it in the correct position you can shrink the top portion that way.

wrapping up the finishing touches and then to the new free standing rack system ..

blocks of ply wood and brad nails spaced accordingly...

The Paper EGG crate cartons are ok longer term storage , but try to find a particular knob is near impossible due to the opague
cardboard

That’s some mighty fine company your 40 is in!! A very nice example of a 65’ big block Vette in my favorite color!!

I was thinking since both of these rigs are native to Oregon since 64 and 65, there's a slight chance they may have met each other before.... just kinda cool to think about... :)

Finished bringing this back to life. I straightened the push buttons, cleaned the volume control, painted the pointer, cleaned and lubricated the tuning mechanism, replaced all electrolytic capacitors with US or Japan sourced components, and cleaned it up a little. Installed an led from @ToyotaMatt.

Whats different about the AGR units? Does something make them "better" or are they just a solid rebuilder? I'm sure google would answer this for me but first hand experience is much appreciated.

I know you found it but wanted to add the link here in case someone else wonders.

I decided to cut a section out of the inner support and make some relief cuts to the top. Then I am going to use angle iron to clamp it straight and stitch the cuts that I made.

That works too but the downside of that is that you get the bends at the cut points where with hammering it would have been evenly spread where the metal needed the shrinking. Plus the added heat of the welding requires planishing with hammer and dolly.
