What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

My boys always accompany me on my MegaMat, in 44, and the bed blocks the kick vent... plus I have to keep the PS window rolled 3/4 of the way up, to prevent anything bouncing off the dash and into the wind.

So, while I’m recovering from surgery, I’m restricted in what I can do.

In an effort to retain a modicum of sanity, I decided to build a wind-powered window blower... really just redirecting the wind through the top of the PS window, onto my boys.

I had a 4’ length of 4” ABS and almost everything else I needed.

I matched 44’s paint, as best I could and mounted/secured it with a length of threaded rod and a couple of nylon straps.

I hope to take a short drive tomorrow to see if it’s worth modifying, to hold ice/water and turn it into a swamp cooler.

Tearing into Project Patina for a new header and some Saginaw

View attachment 1966094

Anyone here done a Saginaw keeping the early-68 steering column and shaft? I really, really want to keep my old stuff from the firewall to the wheel.

Yeah, I have my original column in my 40. We cut the shaft and welded yokes for the Ujoints and the new shaft onto it, and used a wheelbarrow bearing or something silly like that to support it, welded it into the old column. I still have or original big wheel and everything inside the cruiser. I will get a picture for you later today.

Nice rig. What tires and rims do you have? Spacers?

Thank you! They are 35 x 12.50 Procomp X terrains on some old Toyota 7 x 15 white spokes. Not sure what vehicle they originally came off of though. No spacers needed. 😁

@Godwin told me to go fishing.

So I did. Again.

Ate lunch at the river, drank a couple cold porters, listened to a mix of Townes Van Zandt, some acoustic Jerry Garcia, Willie, Tom Petty, and Guy Clark, rigged up and enjoyed the day!

Did a little catching.

A couple of cutties was about it. Lots of missed strikes, and a lot of exploring.

Sliders are bolted on - required drilling 24 holes in the frame. Self tapping bolts are included but I've never had much luck getting them to start (and stay) straight) so I tapped all the holes before installing the bolts. White knuckle offers weld-on versions too. If I had to do it again I might go that route - but I wanted to keep them removable (though I'll probably never need to).

I also went this route so I could keep the running boards - I'm a fan of their design for this reason. You do, however, need to remove the main "brace" underneath the running board that extends off the body mount to put the sliders on.

The running board seems plenty sturdy enough with the remaining 6 bolts in the sheet metal.

I've owned the Warn 8274 for over 30 years. Today with help from my son, we totally unspooled it, cleaned it and rewound the cable like it came from the factory. Took awhile too. Why did I never do this before??? All this time all gobbed up willy nilly with only very occasional use. Cable looks great, old solenoids functioned perfectly with lots of stop go reverse while winding. Pushed some lube into the end plate spool bearing, it was groaning but the lube stopped that. Oh Man... hope that solenoid comment didn't put the jinks on it.

My sons wedding planner saw my truck and insisted I park it next to the church for wedding pictures . Here's a couple from my phone. Can't wait to see the pro's photos . His bride said it was like Cinderella's pumpkin. THE Church is in our local museum with lots of historical buildings from our county.

Getting everything ready for my first ever transfer case rebuild. I'm a bit intimidated but I plan on following Coolermans write up very carefully. The plan is to swap a '76 H42 and this 4 speed TCase into my '72 that has the original 3 speed still in it.

Nothing wrong with the 3 speed but my rig is a DD so I want the 4 speed. When the J30 and the 3 speed tcase are out I plan to refurb them and store for future. Wish me luck.

Can you post a link to Coolerman's write up please

Finally tried my hand at painting as my fenders were rusted out... I've got some nibs and runs that will need to be fixed but, for a first try and a driveway paint job, it will work:
