Always loved your 100's. Can't wait to see this one.
Thanks man! This one will be similarly modded, goal is to keep it light yet aggressive enough for back country camping and off-roading at least blue trails. No budget for metal bumpers but I have other parts on order. lead time is like a month so I’ll probably have the rig 100% setup for this season’s camping trips before summer.

What's up guys. the unusually cold winter is finally fading around here. I have finally been able to work on the LX without freezing. I have also been able to put some miles on it. I bought this one with 120k on it after the 120k mile maintenance was completed, with the exception of the transmission. I finished up the first drain and fill last weekend. The shifting in the low gears has noticeably improved. I'll do a few more this spring as I get time. I have a little pump I built to refresh the WS in my 5 speed. It works just as well on the 6 speed.

I added the Reese brake controller. I followed @grinchy lead. I am happy with it after the first trip. It was difficult to find a place to mount the controller that maintained the correct orientation even though it is smaller than the redarc. I skipped the sticker and put the knob in about the same place. I mounted the LED down below since the info it gives is not super useful anyways.

We spend most of our time on pavement but most trips end on dirt and rocks. I went with Toyo AT3s and compared to the half worn BFG AT2s on my truck, these are louder. 285/70/18 required a fair bit of work to get to fit. I have 1 inch spacers as well. I ended up having to do pretty much everything @TeCKis300 in his fitting full fat tires thread. So thanks for the photos. I made things harder on myself by not starting there. I was able to keep the mud flaps but I did not have cut and tuck them. I did have to trim the inner side of the rocker and hammer the mounting point.

Finally, with some pointers from @eatSleepWoof I was able to peice together a rack with some wide cross bars. I think the wide bar thing may be a regional thing. This is river country and racks are for carrying boats. I put the front bar in the same location as the stock LX bars, to avoid having to use tie downs over the sunroof and because it will simplify putting bikes on the rack, though that is a secondary purpose.

The first camping trip went good. The 200 tows just great. Hooking and unhooking was fun with the AHC. We ended up camping on a decent green way so we threw the bikes in. They just fit with the seat folded up.

Nice going bud! Ive been watching you do your homework here for a while! Good looking setup!

Washed it. So it promptly got rained on later in the day while at my in laws. Sigh. I know it's black and will get dirty quickly but honestly, this makes me not even wanna try. I even checked the weather forecast before I washed it

What headlights are you running?

It's probably more my cell phone night shot exaggerating lighting.

I do run bright aftermarket LEDs in all positions. Ambers in the stock fogs. On the '09 LX, it's easy as pretty much everything uses H11s.

Took a nice trip out to Carrizo Plains to view the superbloom. Little to no crowds via the lesser travelled side roads. With new AHC globes and AHC fluid it rides like my old Montero did on Kings... No heavy whoops here though!

This is still on my to-do list but this would be a good upgrade to the stock lighting.
This is what I have come up with for lighting upgrades. The total cost is maybe $100 and the OEM look is maintained. All factory cutoff lines are maintained (with a small exception for the fogs). I think you probably made a good decision with the HID, the only drawback being a reduced CRI rating in exchange for more light.
  • Low Beam Upgrade H11 to Philips H9 Is nearly double the light output of the stock Osram H11.
  • High Beam 9005 to 9011 Will gain you about 22% more light
  • Fog Light Upgrade H11 to Philips H9 45% more light (this needs a end cap applied or there will be a small amount of scatter, though nothing like LED)
  • Reverse lights Upgrade 921 to GY6.35, See photos. I have done this on other vehicles and the results are incredible. (this may be a good option for the rear fogs as well)

If someone wanted to run and external low beam harness than you could go with these German made 90w H11 in the headlight. Fog lights may melt.

Removed 3rd row, free up some room to build drawers and platform storage. Simple 5 minute job per side. Also removed all the plastic covering inside the engine bay, I can’t check any fluids with it on and I like to check every other fill up so these will go into the shed. That brake reservoir level is way too high, I’d have to remove some and the steering fluid looks dark I will flush.

Probably want to put the little cover over the radiator back on. It has an airflow job.

On demand pumpable water. Used the slee rotopax mounts for their rear bumper. And added a lone rock concepts usb chargeable pump. Works great and can just flip the rotopax as over when the first 2 gallon pax is gone. This leaves my ladder carrier open for other storage.

Maybe but I think the foam piece in front along with the fan shroud is what directing the airflow. The 100 series don’t have all this and it has one of the best cooling system.

I have been running without any covers(except the middle silver one) for over a year without issue

This weekend the LX got a little TLC in the logo department. Installed the standard LC200 rear insignia (the rest of the badging was long gone), and did a front logo delete for the plastic radar cover (which I've always hated). I went with the same gray (plus clear coat) that I recently used for restoring the RW plastic center caps. And I finally put on the factory TLC rain visors that I ordered from the Middle East like 2 years ago.

I would also recommend keeping the engine cover on as it helps not cook your hood paint.
